Now 34, she is the successful owner of her own shop, Mawar Salon in Jakarta, though she admits to some challenges.
Mawar is transgender, and she knows people refer to her with derogatory terms like 'banci salon.' She tells My Jakarta how she deals with the insults, why she looks forward to cutting hair every day and how working in the beauty business has made her stronger.
