PULLMAN, Wash.—Young people face tremendous pressure to conform to the "right" body image. But what does that mean for someone questioning his or her gender? A Washington State University McNair Scholar who analyzed what transgender youth and young adults have to say about their body image found that they report dissatisfaction with their bodies, and 17 percent report having experienced an eating disorder.

"Transgender individuals may attempt to make clear their internal and external self by forming an identity that matches their gender identity. Therefore, these individuals find themselves dealing with body dissatisfaction, experience negative relationships with their reflection in the mirror, and may alter their appearance in numerous ways to achieve a suitable gender identity."
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

Wow, really?!

Is that research from 2012 or 1912? Just makes me wonder.
Acroamatically enlightening?

Would not anybody who is by definition transgender going to have some sort of body issues, regardless of age?

Eating disorders (bulimia, etc) are just part of it.

I have a bad relationship with the mirror too. I'm thinking of getting one from a funhouse so I can look as slender as some of you girls  in the mornings. :P

Every so perceptive, eh?
I had bulimia when in my early 20s. All those things are some desperate try to cope with 'stuff' going on 'below one's surface'. Yet another subconscious attempt to become a girl...
So, yes, you got that ever so right.

I ditto Axelle. Anorexia in my 20s (long gone now, thank heaven). As I look back now, that was a gender issue in itself - a man with a predominantly women's disease. I associated being thin with being female.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?
