How Did You Embarrass Yourself today?

Well, it is Memorial Day weekend with Memorial Day being this Monday and I've been trying to not let things get to me

I went to the supermarket and it was cumbersome mayhem there     First the guy in the deli kept vacillating between Sir and Ma'am and saying sorry and it was crowded and generally cumbersome navigating my way through the store

I was dealing with it all just fine untill I finally made it to the check out stand and the cashier wished me a 'Happy Memorial Day' and asked if I had any plans... Then it slipped out 

"I'll be remembering dead friends"... Everyone within earshot turned and stared at me and they all had varying expressions from understanding to anger

One elderly man asked me if I'd be okay, I said "Yes, I'm okay"

So that's how I embarrassed myself today

V M - for Memorial Day, I'm going to visit the grave of my great-great grandfather, who was a veteran of the American Civil War, and who came to California in the late 1800's.  I'm glad there are people like you who recognize the somber nature of this holiday.

Embarrassed???!!!

I wish I was there in line just so I could have rushed over to give you that well deserved hug! 99% of Americans think Memorial Day just means the start of summer, a three day weekend, BBQ, and shopping. In other words nothing special at all. Apparently only you and one old man whom likely had dear friends die in battle besides him recognized what the meaning of this holiday really is.

Did I just embarrass myself?
