Well, I am pre-everything myself, but I've been around here long enough to know there are a number of transwomen here who started on HRT, facial hair removal, and voice coaching prior to transitioning publicly. (Of course, HRT kinda guarantees that there will come a point when the physical changes start to raise eyebrows, so you can't put off transition indefinitely if you stay on HRT.) I believe trans care in the U.S. is moving away from what I call the "dress test" and recognizing that the RLE is not about proving to the doctor that you need transition (he/she should already know this based on the progress of your therapy) but rather is about preparing *you* for what the rest of your life will be like during/after transition.
Definitely discuss this concern with a counselor/therapist.
