ATHENS, Ga. —

A University of Georgia professor tells Channel 2 Action News he's embarrassed after his arrest on prostitution charges in Gwinnett County.

German professor Max Reinhart, 65, was booked in the Gwinnett County jail just after noon Thursday.

Reinhart was arrested after detectives arranged a meeting with him after they found an online ad in a transsexual escort services section of a website under the name "Sasha."

When police arrested Reinhart, they said he was dressed as a woman.

A University of Georgia professor of German was arrested Thursday afternoon by Gwinnett County police after dressing up as a woman and agreeing to have sex with an undercover officer, according to Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith.

Max Roland Reinhart, 65, faces a charge of prostitution after agreeing to give the undercover officer 30 minutes of sexual service for $60. He also is charged with keeping a place of prostitution for renting a room at the Guest House Inn in Norcross, where he and the undercover officer met, Smith said. Contrary to what the charge of keeping a place of prostitution might seem to indicate, Reinhart did not run a brothel, but only sold his services, Smith explained.

The University of Georgia has agreed not to fire a professor charged in a prostitution sting, even if he is found guilty, as long has he retires by the end of next year's spring semester.

A UGA spokesman said Max Reinhart, a tenured professor, has agreed not to sue the university and leave the campus May 10, 2013, as long as he's not terminated.

The agreement was reached Friday, according to UGA spokesman Pete Konenkamp.
