For me I wouldn't want to start college with a roommate and two suite buddies who didn't know I was trans.  There many possible awkward situations that can occur.  Like you said changing for bed and again in the morning, binders, packers.  You probably still have monthly too.  You don't know anything about how those guys feel about living with a trans guy.  I know you want to be with the other freshmen students but I think a private room would be best to start.  If you find a guy who understands and accept you, consider having a roommate.

The roommate situation is going very well.

No issues whatsoever, I love how easy everything is. I love being treated like the other guys on-campus who have male roommates.
