Idealism, Isolationism, Exeptionalism, - Traditionalism, i.e., we know best what's good, and wholesome, for all AND sundry.
The only 'excuse' I find for this sort of mind-set is, that it was necessary to survive even not too long ago in a pioneering setting. Without this sort of mind-set ... one hardly survived, and so - this mind-set survived.
Why don't Aussies have it that much? With all those early 'dodgy' folks being shipped out for some offence or another, they might just have had enough of this sort of 'religion' that got them into trouble in the first place?
It must be another version of Darwinian selection ... in any case that is what I figured travelling through some unreal hostile landscapes in the US North-West, that not to long back was traversed by horse and ox wagon... made me think what sort of folks could survive such ordeals.
There was NEVER any question to deviate from the given norm ... and if you did, you pretty much didn't make it.
