'Traditional Values' are Apparently Disgustingly Transphobic

The so-called Traditional Values Coalition, following an historic Senate ENDA hearing on Tuesday, is mailing out transphobic donation requests that scaremonger over transgender people teaching kids–as though this should inspire horror and fits of the vapors.

Referring to the figure in the picture above as "Mary," the email lands with the title "Mary Needs Help." It reads:

Meet Mary.

Mary is a little, shall we say, confused...

...but Mary isn't confused about whether or not the Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is going to allow someone like him to keep teaching your kids while he undergoes his transformation from ugly caterpillar into a beautiful... something or other...

I don't mind them believing whatever they want to believe. They could believe I'm a demon mongrel for all I care (and maybe they're right?  ). However, they should not involve children or try to portray us as harmful people to their children.

OK I'm biased but I have troubles with an education system that teaches Creationism as 'science', Bigotry, as a way of dealing with problems, and Stupidity as being normal.

We as a species have the advantage to raise ourselves all the time beyond our history. We, well some of us, have learned that torture doesn't reveal truth, that murder is wrong, that mass murder is still wrong, and if you wear a uniform and commit murder, it is still wrong.

That treating people as slaves is wrong. That raping people is wrong. And ignoring human rights is wrong.

BTW as you all know I'm not in any way anti-USA. Just sometimes I think we have come so far, then I see how far we have to go to drag some people into understanding humanity I do despair.

Idealism, Isolationism, Exeptionalism, - Traditionalism, i.e., we know best what's good, and wholesome, for all AND sundry.

The only 'excuse' I find for this sort of mind-set is, that it was necessary to survive even not too long ago in a pioneering setting. Without this sort of mind-set ... one hardly survived, and so - this mind-set survived.

Why don't Aussies have it that much? With all those early 'dodgy' folks being shipped out for some offence or another, they might just have had enough of this sort of 'religion' that got them into trouble in the first place?

It must be another version of Darwinian selection ... in any case that is what I figured travelling through some unreal hostile landscapes in the US North-West, that not to long back was traversed by horse and ox wagon... made me think what sort of folks could survive such ordeals.

There was NEVER any question to deviate from the given norm ... and if you did, you pretty much didn't make it.

This is democracy in action.  Eventually TVC and other bigots will lose the battle for the "hearts and minds."
However, there is a major, ironic, flaw in the author's analysis:

Historical revisionism. The legislation didn't receive a vote amid the traction gained on a DADT repeal and it was unlikely, given the Republican House leadership's influence, that enough support could be gained to pass ENDA through the lower chamber without serious political capital being redirected from the DADT push. (This is not to comment on whether or not that should have happened, only to state the facts). That TVC is claiming this as a victory is unabashed self-aggrandizement that speaks of how TVC is apparently desperate for funds and willing to play loose with the truth.

If one is going to claim "historical revisionism," one should tell the truth.

Two years ago Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat majority, not the Republicans, failed to pass ENDA.  Facts are stubborn things.

I think it might have something to do with the 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' Axelle.
If you self promote yourself you will get cut down, and anyone claiming to have God's personal approval is definitely seen as sticking out.
So,  'Bible bashing bastards' to use the old phrase are generally fair game for ridicule.
That said, Tony Abbott is leading the Liberal Party in that direction, what can you expect from a failed Seminarian! 
I see the current situation as further proof that the US should have adopted a Westminster type system of Government, with the House majority leader as Prime Minister, able to be grilled in Parliament.

Some reality here. I don't think our education "system" teaches these things, though there are a few areas that can't seem to escape ignorance seeping in. The school where I teach is a public neighborhood high school. None of our science teachers would dream of teaching creationism, and there's a pretty unified anti-bigotry message here.

I think the reason why groups like TVC get so much traction in the US is the agricultural nature of our country. When you live in a spread out area, geography limits the contact you have with people who are different from you. In a whole rural county there are one, maybe two transgendered people, who, of course, either keep a low profile or high-tail it out of there. It seems a bit better in the cities where there are LGBT centers that can manage a higher profile. Gay and transgender folk can climb out of their closets and people see we're not monsters.
