I remember when I was very little when my gender issues became pretty obvious that my mother got me a book about a boy who was one day sent to school in a dress and the whole short story unfolds in the horrible situations this boy is put in because suddenly everyone treats him like a girl, after reading it my mother told me something she'd told me many many times before that I could express my gender in whatever way I felt like it and that if I wanted to be a girl I could be a girl, before she really got me to open up she fell ill (she started falling chronically ill when I was about 5 and died when I was 10.) and suddenly my gender issues fell by the wayside.

The only thin I can remmber for certain about it was that at one point when the class is allowed to read comics he doesn't get the dandy or beno like he wanted he got bunty, thus it was written by a british author.
