Hey all!

I'm hoping to get surgery by February of next year. I was wondering what things I would need to know post-op. I plan on going to dr. garramone in Sunrise, Florida. My girlfriend has family in Miami which is about 45 minutes away. Would travel be safe after surgery? Is it messy? Meaning, if we're staying with her family, will taking care of the drains be messy and will there be blood everywhere etc? What will I need? Is there any specific information we should know? Thanks!

Check out this recent thread:  https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,121872.0.html

1.  Traveling to Miami seems fine.  Make sure you are in the area for 1 week though because you'll have a follow up appointment to get the drains removed.

2.  It shouldn't be messy.  If you are bloody, that is not a good thing.  Drains are there for a reason.  You will have to, well, drain them of course and that involves blood.  But it shouldn't get all over everywhere.

3.  Specifics will be given to you by Garramone or his office.  You'll get a post op packet with instructions.  Otherwise see the thread above where I and others talked at length about post op care.

I live about 45 minutes away from where I had surgery, and the drive home was a little unpleasant, but that's mainly because my dad drove and he's a bit of a scary driver. The drains have the potential to be messy if you're not careful, but my dad and I were able to empty them while I was sitting up in bed and we didn't spill a drop. I don't have any Garramone-specific advice since I went with Steinwald, but I can link you to some general advice and checklists once I get back to my computer.
