Having a full beard after one year is not typical. It depends on genetics and luck and one year is really nothing at all. If you don't plan on stopping T you literally have the rest of your life full of changes and living with a male endocrine system. I'm just saying, if you ask most guys, especially of European descent, they'll say they didn't get significant facial hair until two or three years on T or even longer. I'm one year on T and don't have much facial hair either. I have to shave every three or four days to avoid looking scraggly but I have nothing even approaching a beard yet. I definitely feel your pain though, facial hair is one of the things I desire most, and as soon as I'm able to I'll grow a beard. But one year actually is a piddly amount of time. It sucks but we have to be patient.

its not that im looking for a full grown beard, My brother is only able to grow mustarce sidebumps* (I think its called?) and on his chin, and for me thats cool, would Just like to get small stabs I could actually shave off insteed of shaving of well nothing...
Only comment I got when I shaved was "so your using make up today?" because my dark shadows in my face was gone.. its not beard or bristles its just shaddows, and I think it could be SO awsome to be able to grew beard also just for the passing stuff..

I just hope I wont be one of those types who never can grew a beard.. I know a guy in his 43 his never had a beard and as I mention before my famely are like hairless people.. and my dad dont have much testrorone as he needed testrotone threatment as a kid and so.. So I am worried..
---
But I am glad I dosent seam to be alone, after 2 years I hope I will be able to get something..

I'll be 2 years on T September 29th. I didn't get any changes untill after a year on T, I mean nothing...no voice change, increase in hair, nothing.

A little after a year I started to get increase in leg hair and my voice started to change....about 5 months ago my facial hair started coming in and about a month ago I started to get light hair on my chest and a little more body hair.

My facial hair is coming in well..its now starting to come in on my cheeks but still no stache. If I shave it will take about 2 weeks before you can see any hair. So, hang in there and it will come. Some say shave, but I say no. Its seems when I just let it grow it comes in faster and I get more new growth, but that's just me.

Said very well.

tvc said it well. It really does depend a lot of your genetics, and if no one in your family has much body/facial hair, that would be an indicator as to why you don't see any change yet. I have only just started having chin scruff that is actually VISIBLE in close range as well as some body hair, but I have a heavy European background so that would explain some things. Still, nothing significant, and I don't expect much more change for a good few months to come.

Hang in there. Your changes will come.

I've known a bunch of guys who didn't have much beard action after a year.

My beard wasn't even remotely respectable until more than two and a half years in. I kept shaving because it looked pretty stupid whenever I did let it grow out. Even when I finally decided to keep the beard, it was sparse and wispy. One of my friends teased me about it (he doesn't know I'm trans). I just said it was the curse of being blond. However, both my father and brother are fairly hairy, so I have always hoped for a good beard.

I'm now approaching three and a half years, and I have better coverage. The hairs are a little coarser, but I still have a young guy's beard, and I'm pushing fifty. I'm hoping for more progress by the five-year mark, but I will just have to wait and see.

You just have to wait and see what your body wants to do.

Hi, NatKat;

I apologise if I'm mistaken, but are you of Asian descent?  I know quite a few guys of Asian descent who do not have much facial hair at all.  I think it's really about genetics, though, as the others have said.

It's genetic - if family members don't have much of a beard, the chances of you growing a beard worthy of Santa Claus are pretty slim.

Pre-electro in my mid 20s, I still only needed to shave only every third day if I shaved closely, and only had a scraggly thing over the upper lip and chin.

Sadly there isn't much to do about it - just hope the T is kinder to you elsewhere.

It took me a good 2 years before I could grow a beard & even now (3.5 years in) while I have a good bit of facial hair, my lil mustache is barely there. It's all genetics, man.

I am the same way, I am almost 2 years on T and all I have is a very light and soft bit of mustache hair, and a few chin hairs

nothing that you could see from a distance

Heh my 'underbeard' gets CRAZY as does my jawline hair, but my cheeks & 'stache area are pretty sparse lol

I was born male but I could no even grow a beard until I was 24 and it was patchy then.. But when I became 27 somthing happened and I could not go 12hrs without shaving.

So give it some time.. But not everyone get that facial hair.

If it was possible I would have given you mine ;).

Asians and Native Americans and some other groups typically don't get much facial hair. Some Asian men can grow a beard and some can't. Native Americans...I don't think it's in their genetics. Europeans do tend to get facial hair.

Smitty, I'm in the same boat with my mustache. It's still fine like baby hair--and since it's blond, it doesn't look like much. But I started getting sideburns almost immediately after starting HRT, and I have good side growth as well.

You asked, he wasn't...doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

In other news, somebody suggested that I dye my moustache. I don't think that's going to happen. I'll give it another eighteen months. If it's still soft and wispy, I'll...I'll...well, I guess I'll just wait a little longer.

My (cismale) dad is hardly hairy at all in his late fifties. My (cismale) half brother cannot grow a beard in his forties. I'm 7 months on T (31 years old) and I have like 8 dark hairs on my chin and a whole ton of soft blonde hair on my jawline. My "sideburns" look like dirt on my face if I go too long w/o shaving.  :P

it wasn't a stupid question. I dont have any picture of myself on susan so I could as well had been asian or black..
----
I guess most people start getting kinda blonde hair.. one of my ftm friends told me he coloured it in a dark colour and then it started growing out dark..  I heard something like that happent (just with a girl who coloured her hair)
but I guess I would first try when I actually have something to colour..

Natkat, my leg and arm hair were always blond before T, but now it's all dark brown. There was an interim period--I had both wispy blond body hair from before, and the darker, coarser hairs were growing right next to them. I don't have those blond hairs anymore.

My head hair got much darker, which I thought was weird. My beard and sideburns are dark blond, so my head hair is darker than my facial hair. This might have been a natural effect of aging. My mother was blond when she was little, and her hair was full-on brown when I was growing up. It seemed to be even darker when I was a teenager.

But I just realized the other day that my mustache is coming in darker than before. It's about time. I'm nearly three and a half years on T! But it looks sort of dorky. I looked better when it was nearly invisible. Maybe it's time for a trim.
