Hey guys,

I don't know how many of you are from/near NY, but my therapist told me last week that there's a surgeon in Albany doing top surgery now.  I havent seen pictures or met with them yet so I don't know how the results look, but just wanted to give you guys the heads up that there's a possibility of someone closer for surgery when the time comes.

I am actually having top surgery with Dr Jeffrey Rockmore on Friday, July 20th, I will give an update after that if anyone is interested.

Few more hours away, but I had surgery in Rochester, NY about 2 months ago with Dr. Davenport. Very very happy with the results. There are no pics of his work online that I could find. He doesn't normally do FTM surgery, does do cis-male gyncomastia, but was totally trans friendly and a whole lot cheaper than other surgeons I looked into.

Yes, Dr Rockmore is with the Albany Plastic Surgeons group.  They are located on Washington Ave.  I will give you an update as soon as I am back on my feet a bit.

Just looked up Dr. Rockmore. His work looks good, but it seems like he's only done peri based on what's on the site.

When I went for my consult with Dr Rockmore I was able to see his before and after pics of double incision mastectomy's that he had performed and they looked really good.  Maybe the site was just not updated in a while???  I originally was scheduled with Dr Beverly Fischer in MD but then was told about Dr Rockmore through my therapist, so I decided to at least have a consult with him.  He was very pleasant and his work looked really good.  There were a number of reasons that I decided to go with Dr Rockmore.  He is a little cheaper, I saved about $1500 including travel and hotel expenses, but the biggest reason for me was that I really liked the idea of recovering at home in my own bed with my friends and family close by.  I hope I made the right choice for me, we will soon see.

No, Dr. Rockmore is doing less invasive surgery. He's making a small incision around the areola and going from there. I don't have a very big chest and he said my skin elasticity was good so it would be minimal scarring and so on. He also said I should be at full recovery in two weeks. I was very pleased with his staff and his decision on what to do with my chest. I hope it comes out awesome.

kenton sounds like you have the possibility for great results being smaller and having good skin elasticity.  Keep us up to date on your results.  Good luck of the 16th.

hey guys! had my surgery today with Dr. Rockmore and the staff at the St. Peter's Surgery center were incredible. They make you feel completely comfortable and my nurses had spectacular personalities. My procedure took just two hours and I was in recovery for a little over an hour. Make sure you all keep up with your pain medications and antibiotics because YOU WILL  NEED THEM! I am sore (which is a given) and I can't drive for a week or do much of anything. Just need to chill out for a while. The nurses advice was to try and focus on using my abs and thighs to do things such as sit down and go to the bathroom as well as getting up. You basically want to use your arms as a last resort. I'm not allowed to lift, push, or pull anything more than 5 pounds. I needed help with emptying the drains because I didn't want to stress out my arms and chest muscles by opening the drains up to empty them. The reason Dr. Rockmore is having me do minimal things is so that there is less bleeding and bruising. You can tell if you are doing too much if your drains have a lot of blood in them so definitely take it easy. I am open to any questions and wouldn't mind talking to anyone since I will definitely want something to do while I'm recovering!

Awesome!  Glad to hear surgery went well!  I am so looking forward to it.  How long are yoy out of work for?  Problem is; for my job I have to be able to lift 50 lbs before I can go back, BUT they usually have a light duty thing they set up for people so they don't completely lose their hours.

I will know my limitations at my follow up appointment on Monday, if there are any. My appointment is exactly one week after the surgery and for this week I basically have to lay low, I can't do much just to make sure the bleeding and bruising comes to a stop. Prior to the surgery Dr. Rockmore said I would be fine within two weeks but we will see for sure on Monday. I don't have a regular job because I'm going to school so I don't have to worry about that factor like many others do. I am an avid body builder though and I can't wait to get back into my normal routine. This week of not doing anything is driving me crazy! I will keep you updated on what Dr. Rockmore says at my follow up appointment.

Wow, really cool to hear about a dr in Albany. Thank you so much for the updates, and best wishes healing! I had a peri a lonnnnggg time ago - while it has a smaller incision, I don't know how it compares as far as being 'less invasive' than a DI. Less scarring, yes, but the smaller incisions meant a lot more activity inside, and as a result, possibility of more soreness for longer.

Chipper, if you are still deciding, in Massachusetts, guys are also reporting good results from Dr Paul Costas in Concord MA, and Richard Bartlett, Brookline. Both are near Boston.

So glad to hear he also does DI. (And takes insurance up front!) Hope all you guys are healing up and speedily!

Does Rockmore have required minimum time in therapy, or just a therapist letter, or what? I've heard that Melissa Johnson requires evidence of three months minimum of therapy. With more guys getting hormones through informed consent (no therapy requirements prior to starting T), that can be a barrier.
