Sexual Reassignment Surgery: "Inhumane" Treatment?

Reports out of Australia are applauding efforts there to abolish the law that requires people to have sexual reassignment surgery to legally change gender. This is an issue that has been popping up in countries around the world, with such terms as "inhumane" treatment and "human rights violations."

I can only speak for myself on this, and would never try to dictate how it should be for other people.

Thus, I, for one, wanted sexual reassignment surgery. Nobody forced me to do it. In fact, I couldn't wait to get it done — go back and read the blog posts here leading up to my surgery in October 2009. My biggest fear was that something would delay my surgery. If Quebec laws had been amended to let people change genders without having SRS, I would have had it anyway.

It is getting some traction, and naturally some opposition, but there is case law that supports it.  That makes me hopeful, but I don't expect change quickly.

In countries more advanced than Australia and the USA, countries like Argentina, chnaging your gender marking does not requires SRS.

The issue of having or not having SRS is multiplexed one. In many countries SRS is not covered by health insurances and thus out of reach for many. So were does it live us us folks that are 24/7 RLE, post HRT, ? The other issues is that for health reasons some GID folks cannot undergo SRS, where does this leaves them? and finally, how about those of us who do not want to have SRS for other personal reasons but otherwise pass and live as women, where does the rules of having to have SRS live us?

Hum, forgot to add Germany, UK, and in fact all of the rests of less-advanced Europe. One heck of list that seems; maybe they have some reasons other than e.g. 'religious'.
I could answer that for Germany, and no, it's not a fascist state (anymore) so there you go.

Food for thought I guess,

PS: FtM does NOT require bottom surgery there - BUT hysterectomy. Mastectomy? Well that seems also up the individual. Try 'sell' your image to the world being a guy with D cups... not easy either.

Transmen can get their Birth Certificates changed in my old State, Victoria, with Mastectomy.  The breasts are regarded as a reproductive organ due to their feeding function.
The same doesn't apply to transwomen who have had a Vasectomy which seems unfair to me.

If I read this right then a Trans man can get pregnant, as no hysterectomy is asked for - only will then have to bottle feed?! Sounds a little odd, now doesn't it?
