WHAT: New York City is offering an information panel called "Recruiting LGBTQ and Affirming Foster Parents"
WHEN: Monday, July 16, 5:30-8:30pm
WHERE: NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS), 150 William Street, 8th floor.
SPEAKERS: ACS Commissioner, Ronald E. Richter and Council member Danny Dromm, Dist. 25 Queens, will be the featured speakers.

BACKGROUND:
With the passing of the same-sex marriage law, many more couples can now be considered as potential parents and solve a huge crisis for hundreds of New York City kids who need homes, according to child advocate officials.

"We are committed to ensuring that children in our care are safe, supported, and being cared for in an environment where they can succeed," said Tia Waddy, ACS Deputy Director of Communications.

"For youth who identify as LGBTQ — Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning—the challenges of facing discrimination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity often compound the significant needs of youth who are in the child welfare and juvenile justice system," Ms. Waddy explained.

"We still have a way to go. But most of all, our children need loving adoptive and foster parents, regardless of the sexual orientation."
