Am I the only that feels like they will never get their top surgery? I've been out of work for over a year and I feel like I'm never gonna get the money to pay for my top surgery (as I'm in-debt with some stuff). Although, my top surgery is way more important than my debts and top surgery comes before debt for me. I'll pay my debts after.

To all those on T and have not had top surgery yet, what time frame are you giving yourself to say" Okay, top surgery is going to happen within x amount of years."? And if you don't get your surgery in that time frame, are you gonna have a metal breakdown like me? If I don't get my surgery before I'm 35, I will have a mental breakdown.

People who are not on T, do you feel this way too? Do you have a Time frame of when your top surgery should happen?

I ask these questions separately b/c I'm on T and I want to know how long it took people who were on T to get their top surgery.

i plan on getting my top surgery between high school and college however that will only happen if my parents help me pay for top surgery which im not sure if they will and if i cant get it done then, ill probably will have a mental breakdown.

I have been on T for 9 months and I already feel like I'm going to have a mental break down if I don't get the money..

I have no job. I'm a full-time student. I take 20 hours worth of classes.. which equates to a lot more when you factor in labs, study-time, and homework. I live on my own, pay my own bills, have no vehicle, and eat on maybe 20 dollars a week. It's frustrating that I'm saving all the money I can, but I have to keep digging into it when things happen ... and since I have no job, it's very difficult to remain comfortable with finances.

I graduate in May and as much as I would love to get my surgery before I graduate, I don't know if it's going to happen. 6000 extra dollars is VERY difficult to come by.. and I have no idea what I'm doing.

I want to live in the body that I want and feel is right while I'm still young, so yes I've put a time frame on myself... If i don't get it within the next 2 years.. I am going to snap. Dysphoria is so hard to deal with sometimes. It's getting better on T, but it's so much more difficult now that I want to go without a shirt when I swim, and do water sport activities(I do a lot of them. I'm starting to Kayak 3 times a week now.. and next week I am going white water rafting).. I'm also stealth, and it's difficult to explain why I can't go without a shirt. I make up BS stories about how I have sensitive skin and whatnot.. but people are starting to get suspicious I think.

I've been on T for about a year and a half and in my mind, (I could be wrong) anyone on T has had their surgery within 2 years.

I've set a time frame of 5 years only b/c once you turn 35 you have to have a mama-gram and I don't want to have a mama-gram done, so really my top surgery has to be done in 4 years, and if I get a job hopefully sooner. But my mother told me it's now 40 years old that a mama-gram has to be done, so I hope I don't have to get one done.

Also, don't worry about wearing a shirt in the water, lots of guys wear shirts in the water. I personally wouldn't get suspicious if a guy didn't want to take his shirt off to go in the water. Some guys are not comfortable with their bodies to take off their shirt.

I know a couple of guys on here who haven't.

The issue isn't that they don't want to have it either.

If you work towards your goals, Dominick, just know that you will reach them eventually.

They don't want top surgery?

Thanks. I was saving $20 a week, and then I started saving $40 a week. My friend calculated that it would take me 20 years to save for top surgery saving $20 bucks a week. I can't wait 20 years for top surgery. Now that my car has broke down and needs repairs I have to take out of my top surgery savings to fix it. I wasn't gonna take money out of my top surgery savings but I need the car in case I get a job and if I get a job I can save more and get the money faster for top surgery. I feel like I'm never gonna get a job so why put all this money into my car and start my saving for top surgery all over again? It took me so long to save up $700 dollars and I'm not even close to the cost my top surgery.

How much do you put away a week for your top surgery savings?

wheat thins are delicious

I'm trying to put away 100 a month, that's 50 from each check.  More when I can, and when I get my taxes next year I will put the majority into savings.  This year I put nearly all of my tax return in savings.  I'm going to try to get top surgery within the next two years.  I will probably go for a loan after I save a little over half.  If I can save 3500-4000 I will get a loan for the rest.

I'll be 2years in september and I'm no where near being able to afford top surgery. I feel the same way, part time at pizza hut just ain't gonna cut it...but I'm going to take emt classes this fall so I will be able to be an er tech which pays more and then I can actually save up for surgery.

Of course I started hormones 3 months after I turned 17, and didn't get my first job untill 5 months ago, which I quit for a factory job, and that factory job i quit and moved to KCMO, and now I work at pizza hut...monday was my second day.

I plan to have surgery within 2 years.

No. They do.
I just said that wasn't the issue, actually.

I'm pre-T and even pre-transition and I plan on having my surgery by the time I'm 26 ideally.  I know I want to have it before I'm 35 if I really need an extended time frame before I lose it.  I am currently 20.  My price is going to be higher since I'm choosing to get the body masculinization so it's gonna take longer to save.

I don't have a job right now so on an average week I put about a dollar, maybe two in what supposed to be my top surgery fund (provided I don't have to dip into it for therapy or other reasons).  It does feel like I will never be able to reach my goal but when it comes down to it with adequate amount of saving when I do get a job I feel like it could happen along with doing extra things on the side to raise money.....hopefully.

I do have top surgery so cant relate to that, but I feel I am the one one who never will get my gender marked change.

I do know alot of people who are having trouble with surgery. not really top surgery but more bottom surgery.
I know a guy who waited for 18 years to get permission to get bottom surgery from his local hospital and his too poor to travel somewhere ells to do it so he cant do anything beside waiting and hoping or getting the money.

The only way I managed to get top surgery was that my dad's former boss passed away a while back, and he left my dad 30 thousand dollars to split between my two brothers and I, "for college." And my parents were adamant about my 10 grand being for college only, especially when I started asking to use it for top surgery after high school. Once they realized it was a matter I was extremely passionate about (I told them I'd rather be in debt after college than go through college in misery with moobs), they let me use my funds to pay for surgery. But, if it weren't for my dad's boss leaving us that money, I'd be SOL and would probably have had to wait 10+ years to get a job and make my own money, before being able to pay for it myself.
Also, I had my surgery done pre-T.

How much do you put away a week for your top surgery savings?

A couple of things:

$20/week
52 weeks/year

= $1,040 saved each year.

In 6 years, you should have enough for top surgery. (Not including interest, but that will probably just buy a celebratory dinner)

Tip: Fix the car, but the next time split the savings into two accounts (some financial institutions allow this with just one acct, you make a "sub-account"). The first is "savings", i.e., money that you will dig into if needed (car repairs, etc. Not for having fun!), the second "sub-account" is titled "Top Surgery" or similar and is no-touchy, unless something is life-threatening (I can't imagine what that might be...but it's not for car repairs etc)

If you're saving $40/week now, split two ways = $1,040 each year into top surgery ( = 6 years), and into savings...most car repairs or other needs will be less than $1,000, in my experience, and won't happen each year. Regular maintenance also helps with repairs, as does knowledge of basic mechanics (you can do some maintenance and repairs yourself).

That's one...and the other....oh yeah, I remember.

Some of you have said, "If I don't get top surgery by (this date), I'm going to have a mental breakdown." Don't worry about any breakdown...they cannot be planned, they're not a choice. If you have one, it's almost always spontaneous.

In my experience, once one gets to a self-imposed deadline, your perspective changes. You realize you haven't met your goal, and you look at what happened, why it didn't happen, and then you set another date as your goal. It will happen eventually. Just keep working at it....Good luck!

Right now I just don't intend on getting any sort of surgery. There are grants out there that will pay for surgery if you meet their requirements.

I need to have top surgery though I have little to no funds. I'm a full time student, I also work two jobs during the semester& am volunteering right now over the summer. The volunteering has given me a roof so I don't have to put cash towards rent at the moment.

I've been out of my family's home since 17& will be turning 21 in a few months so I just want to let all you who are out there struggling know that you are definitely not alone.

I planned on getting it done before graduate school but that is in no way realistic.

My goal is to now get it done before I'm 30. It really sucks but it will happen.

The mentality I have is I'll get there as soon as I am able& will be so grateful knowing I did it all on my own- surely an accomplishment when I don't have financial support from those around me.

I should be getting T any day now and I'm still in the frame of mind that it's never gonna happen...never mind top surgery.

It's not an issue of money for me because I'm in England and we're covered by the NHS....it's just the hoops you have to jump through and the horrendous waiting times I have to contend with. I've been waiting over 4 years for T...I dread how long surgery will take.

I really feel for you guys who have to pay for it yourselves, god knows when I'd get top surgery if I had to save up for it.
  •

I'm on T, but it looks like top surgery won't be happening for me until 2014.  Not because of money (between my private health insurance and Medicare, it's mostly covered), but because of A) the 12-month waiting period for pre-existing conditions with my insurance and B) I prefer to wait until my final stage of Permanent Residency is over (probably late 2013 to 2014).  Also I've not seen my new psych yet, so it's up to him when he writes my letter.

I hope all you guys reach your goal in getting your Top surgery in the time frame you set.

Really? Is it certain Doctors that the grants will cover?

6 years is too long. I'll be 36 and I'll have to get a mama-gram and I don't want that.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that there is a machine of some sort that you put your breast into to get a mama-gram? It like squishes them down or something.  Also, can't the doctor just feel your breast as a mama-gram?
