Hey guys, I have been thinking a lot about top surgery lately and trying to figure out what my plan is of who to go to when it is time. Originally I figured since I am close by (living in FL) Dr. Garramone would be my choice, but I've realized that I am actually probably a very good candidate for the keyhole procedure. Dr. Garramone doesn't seem to do that procedure very often, though, and I can only find a very few results with that type of surgery, and those are only on his website. So I looked into other surgeons that were more experienced with that procedure and came across Dr. Medalie and Dr. Fischer. There are plenty of photos of both of their keyhole surgeries online, and their results look really good. Dr. Fischer looks like she does a more consistently better job, but something I noticed on Dr. Medalie's website is it looks as though it is possible to have insurance pay for surgery.
Now this is where my thoughts sort of started wandering and perhaps where the question actually comes into this post. First, has anyone been able to get insurance coverage for surgery through Dr. Medalie (or Dr. Fischer)? My original timeline for surgery was a ways off because of the money situation. I know it depends on the particular insurance policy I have, so I do need to call about that before I get my hopes up. I imagine the chance is very slim.
Also, are there any other lesser known surgeons in FL that will do top surgery for FTMs other than Dr. Garramone? I've tried searching and came up with nothing. I just want to make sure I've exhausted all local possibilities before I look into out-of-state surgeons. I know sometimes the tradeoff for going to a lesser known surgeon is the quality of the results, and obviously I wouldn't go to someone just because they were more affordable, but I am just curious.
I'm sorry if this post is a bit vague or all over the place, really I am just kind of voicing my thoughts and open to anyone's experiences. If you need any clarification on anything just let me know.
