"Male" rapist put into women's prison

While reading a trans prison articles I came across one that defies common sense....

While other genuine trans people can't get into a female prison/jail cause of a technicality, a scum bag like this that self mutilated himself is allow to be placed in a womans prison/jail..

I'm friends with a murderer.

My friend is serving xx-years-to life in Central California Women's Facilty in Chowchilla, CA, after having been convicted about 20 years ago on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. (What she did, and was convicted of, is not relevant to this story, so we don't need to get into that now.)

So, today, when we got a letter from C, my jaw dropped with astonishment, and I was dumfounded with incredulity.

You see, her letter detailed the admission to CCWF of a convicted rapist, a male, into the women's prison.

W. T. F.?

On the face of it, that just doesn't make sense. Why would California prison officials stick a man into a women's prison?

In her letter, C said that is was to protect the man, Richard J. Masbruch, from being beaten, raped, or killed, if he were incarcerated in a men's prison.

When we got C's letter, I was outraged! Ready to blow up! How could this be?

And I'm still outraged, but after a bit of Googling, I now have more of a picture of what's going on, and more of an idea of the details.

You see, Richard Masbruch is apparently transgendered through self-mutilation (not through surgery), and now goes by the name of Sherri Masbruch. According to reports, while incarcerated in Texas, Masbruch destroyed his genitals with acid a few years ago, after many attempts.

Is this person taking HRT? I think they should take that more into account than they do. Anyways yes I agree with Jaime.

I don't understand why they are so against the threat of a rapist getting raped, but are fine with the threat of the other inmates getting raped.
Whether it's a man or a woman is of no consequence. Rapists deserve what's coming to them and more.

The article said that she was put in a women's prison and they stabbed her, because the women in there were afraid of being sexually assualted. Then it asked whether she should be put in a men's prison, women's prison, transgender prison, or solitary confinement.

I fail to see the problem here.

There are plenty of women with "a history of violence against women", and nobody thinks twice about putting them with other women. When cis women rape other women (yes, it does happen), you don't hear anyone trying to put them in a men's prison. Why shouldn't she (YES. SHE!) go to the same place we send all the other female rapists? How are the safeguards we already have in place to keep women from being sexually assaulted in prison inadequate to deal with teh trans?

Why do you all assume she's the threat to the other prisoners? If I'm reading correctly, the only one whose been hurt so far is Ms. Masbruch! Is there any evidence at all that she's done anything at all--while in prison--to warrant this type of "scrutiny"? I mean other than how she was born.

When did the idea that no one can determine our own gender but ourselves become so radical around here? No one at all commented on the copious misgendering in the article. An article which admits that Ms. Masbruch has done nothing at all to the writer of the article or her "friend". Is it so hard to think that someone could be a trans woman and a rapist? I get it, I rape someone, I'm suddenly a "man" again. What else do I need to watch out for, lest I have my gender taken away from me?

For that matter, when did the idea that no one deserves to be raped become so radical in America? You say that a rapist deserves to be raped: how about murderers like this woman's jailbird friend?

I don't know about you, but this is exactly how I'd want to be treated if I f---ed up--just like any cis woman who did the same thing. The idea that the "men have penises, women don't" bull->-bleeped-<- for once worked against transphobes can't make me do anything but smile.
