T injection on the side of your thigh

Are T injections given on the side of your thigh also? The nurse that gives me my injections has a new job and can no longer give me my injections so another nurse gave me my T injections but she gave the injection on the side of my thigh yesterday( Monday) and it's been sore ever since and I think there is a little tiny bit of swelling...? It's not red or anything,  just sore.

My nurse who taught me gave me an area that was basically the muscle along the top of my thigh and told me I could inject in the side but it might be harder to get it straight in. Tons of trans guy's videos say only inject in the side and virtually all the literature I have found online says to inject on the side of the thigh, but I figured I would listen to my nurse - she's been at this a while. So, I don't know if its a normal reaction because I never tried it.


Maybe its because they changed location and the muscle is just sensitive? I still remember that I was sore after my first shot.

You should be getting them at a point that is in the middle third of your thigh and halfway between the outside and top of your thigh. In just the actual side of the thigh is not a typically given point of injection and your nurse doesn't know what she's doing if this is what's going on.

When I was having my injections done by a nurse they always did in my "hip", or basically my rear.

She wanted to give the injection in my arm. That's not a place T injections are given, right?

For injections like this, no. The arm is not used. I can't find it at them moment, but I got a sheet from my nurse about the common injection sites and the types of injections given there.

The rear is the best spot for T shots, but doing it yourself the thigh is an okay alternative.

I dont really know but somethimes I felt alot of pain by injections days after and some days its just take a very short time and its over?
not sure what makes the diffrence exactly

Thanks. I wonder since I haven't got'n changes I need/ or supposed to get is that maybe b/c the T injections were given to me in the wrong place in the thigh...? They were all given in the thigh, except for that one shot on the side of my thigh.

I'm not exactly sure where on the side of my thigh the injection was given, but if it's somewhere between the middle and top side of the thigh, is that okay? B/c I think it was between the middle and upper side of my thigh the injection was given.

I'm not sure what makes the difference either. I haven't felt pain days later after my injections,  only if the shot hurt a lot I felt after pain/soreness for a little while that same day.

The thigh muscle for IM injections is the vastus lateralis.  It is sort of on the lateral/outside, yes.  But it is acceptable to self-inject on the top of your thigh.  Either way section off your thigh into thirds and inject into the middle third.  An easy way to do this is place a palm in front of your knee and a palm below your hip.  Inject in the middle of the open space.

The arm is an IM injection site but not for T.  T is occasionally given SC (into fat) so you're still getting the T even if it's in the "wrong" spot on your thigh.

I'm curious as to why the rear is the best?  I do it in my thigh because it takes to much contortion to get it in the ass cheek.

Interesting.  I was taught by my endo and in school that testosterone should not be injected into the deltoid.  Something to do with larger muscles and the thickness of the T, but my brain is a little foggy on it.

I don't know the specifics behind it but I know guys have done it before.

Adio is right. The deltoid is not a recommended spot of injection because we're using hormones. The whole larger muscle thing is because the point of an IM hormone shot is absorption.

Bigger muscle area = more T absorption. Hence the glute being the prime place of injection, the thigh being a point for convenience in self shots, and the deltoid being more of a last resort or a spot that is not recommended.

It's like in your hip. This is what I've been using for self-injections and I like it because it's usually entirely painless, easy to see, and requires no weird body angles.

@tvc15: As far as I can tell, it's fine. It's just as effective as the typical dorsalgluteal injection site. Big muscle is big muscle. I might try that site since the thigh is pretty blah for me.
