That's what my mom told me after she asked me why I don't go to church. I really don't know how many freaking times I have to explain to my parents I am not a christian. I do not conform to any organized religion. I have my own one-on-one relationship with God. What's the point in listening to someone preach for hours if I don't even share their views? If any of you have religious parents how do you put up with them? Sometimes when I think their coming around they say something or do something that let's me know their not going to change or at least try to understand me or my views on certain things. I also don't want to spend my sunday with ppl who are probably just as closed-minded and ignorant as my parents. Church can be a great place to be, but it can also be a place where ppl judge you or act like their better than you. I say this because my grandmother acts this way towards ppl she considers lower than herself. She may not admit this, but I can see right through her. And she's also coming to visit next week so I have to put up with being called young lady and momma. She can be the nicest person you know, but as soon as you get her talking about gay ppl or anything she's not open to she turns into a different person. I wish I had a different family.

If i were you i would say this :

"I consider my relationship with god to be a very personal thing. I dont feel the need to publicly pray or profess my faith. My best interactions/conversations with god are done when im by myself in a quiet and peaceful environment where I can truly reflect on my faith and myself. I would rather reflect on my faith and myself by myself than listen to someone else talk about their relationship with god. Isn't that what truly matters anyway? Your own relationship with god and how it makes you feel?"

or something to that affect. hope i helped :)

and i know dealing with ignorant people sucks but maybe try to keep the conversation away from things that your grandma will get all fired up about. and also maybe ask her not to refer to you like that? if she asks why just say you don't like it and it makes you uncomfortable.

Thanks for your help. I think I have a better chance getting through to my father than my mother. My mom is a different story....
