Told HR about me being trans today.  She didn't even bat an eye.

I'm a long way away from being me at work but them knowing just takes this huge load off.  I'd become very anti-social at work and it sounds like all my therapy appointments set off a red flag for my boss (not that he knew what my appointments were.  Just I had a lot).  As documented on the forums here when I came out in school I was very impulsive about it.  The reason I was becoming anti-social was I didn't want to just blurt the truth out, again.  HR appreciated my concern for the company (me being a representative of the company as an employee and I don't pass well so I am very visible). As for my manager and the appointments, I'm glad that snowball is melting now instead of potentially growing.

I told her late morning so I've only been out about four hours.  Still, I feel so much better.  Much easier to focus without the mental distraction anymore.  I also think my behavior before today had my job in greater risk than coming out did.  I'm going into the weekend thinking things are looking up.

I know the phrase but, I don't feel damned.  Really for the first time since May I don't feel damned because the closet was worse for me.  All and all telling my SO I need to be a female full time and coming out to HR has made me feel relieved.  I beleive I'm on a path to enjoy, not merely endure life.  So yeah, I'm feeling good.

         I hope your HR is more trustworthy than mine was (and helpful)).  I had called my HR last fall in prep for coming out.  I didn't tell him which facility I worked at in the company and used my nickname.  When I called him back in April to tell him my time line for coming out he knew where I worked and who my boss is.  He claims I told him, which I know I didn't.  Anyway he had called my boss to give "a heads up" that someone in his department was going to transition.  I think he figured it was me since there was only 14 of us that worked there.  Anyway from that I had trust issues with HR. 
          HR also refused to agree to have a advocate come in to talk to my co workers about what TG is about.  Luckily my union saw different and someone was brought in to talk.  I feel this made a difference as opposed to my boss just telling them (per HR) to be respectful.  Everything is gong good so far two months into coming out.  One exception, I cannot change to the womens locker/restroom until I have a letter from the Drs saying I have had irreversible surgery.

I have a friend, who has begun HRT but is not ready to go full time.   But she found out that many of her fellow workers have figured it out.  Others just think she is gay.

She wants to gradually introduce more female attire and subtle makeup.  I worry that these small changes may hurt her in the long run.

HR told me the cases that could come up that would cause her to have her tell others I am trans.  No big deal to me.

HR also showed me a list of performance items that the company uses to evaluate the employees and assured me the results of filling that list out is all they care about. 

I can find no reason to distrust her.  I've been laid off before, and could feel it was coming. Back on Friday I didn't get any negative vibes from HR, unlike the time I got laid off.

There is a woman in my TG group who went slow and says it worked out for her.  I' love to take the plunge, so to speak, but I don't window how good an idea that is.  Though my opinion may change.

I like to try and meet people halfway and let them know that I do consider their feelings, but nonetheless my journey is going to one destination and that will not change.

Another thing that happened when I came out to HR was she reminded me if the company's zero tolerance policy regarding mistreating GLBT individuals.  This was before, in my mind anyway, I'd fully come out so it felt like she was leaping to my side from the get go.  I think she thought someone said something offensive and that's why I was there.

Well Diane your concern could be considered foreshadowing.  I get into work today, "hey (male name) can I talk to you for five min" comes the text.  Yup, HR told my boss. He was cool, or at least as cool as my boss gets.  Telling me how fortunate I am to have as understanding boss as he.  Ok.  I think he was saying that looking for me to look at him favorably, he's got a track record of that kind of thing.

Stressed me the heck out today though.  I said to HR I didn't care if she told so I brought it on myself. He was supportive and looking to get someone to come in to talk to the company, so that's good news.

E-Day = Dec 10th

It will also be the day I inform my closest coworkers about the changes that will be coming.  Full time follows sometime early next year.  I'z need hair extensions first and I want to go back home one more time before I get them and return to full time life.

I got lucky too.  We hired a new HR specialist and she took care of the company side of someone else's transition.  I look forward to learning more about what she knows.

I'm anxious, but ready.
