Name Change in the Divorce

Well I was really disappointed today. 
My wife and I had included my name change in the divorce settlement.
The lawyer took the settlement to the judge and he said that he would not accept it with the name change. So now the lawyer is taking my name change out.

This is in the state of Michigan the change was my first and middle name.
The lawyer had believed it was possible.

All I can say is that I tried. I think it is really unfair. My neighbor had her first and last name changed in her divorce, but she is legally a female.
Now will have to spend more money and do it as just a name change.
It really is a bummer. 

Have any of you tried to get your name change in a divorce and what happened?

A divorce decree would not be a legal name change.  I'm sure the judge needed your original name since that is what you were married under.

Maybe an aka (also known as) could have been used just to get your new name in it too.

But it's legal name change for a women.
They don't always go back to their maiden name either.
Why isn't it the same for a male to female like me?
