Has anyone changed there gender marker on their drivers license in Florida? Do you need bottom surgery to do so? Some resources say you do, and other don't. I'm looking to change my name and gender marker on my ID too. I was wondering if anyone knew the process. I know for a gender marker change on your SS card you need bottom surgery, but I don't know about a DL.

You mouse over the state. It tells you what various states require.
Don't know how up to date it is:
The wording on these might perhaps allow for top surgery, if your surgeon signs for it.

No, this isn't accurate unless things have RADICALLY changed in the last couple of years. You might want to check your sources. Where did this info come from?

Arch is right. I have actually heard of people getting it by getting the doctor who is prescribing to T to write something like "I am caring for this patient and _______ is doing all that is medically necessary to change genders from female to male (or something on that order)."

I thought I saw it on SSA's website regarding gender marker change. So, would I be able to change my gender marker on my ID and SS card with a letter from my Dr? I haven't even had top surgery, but I'm on T.

I'm not saying it is USUALLY done this way. May be that the person encountered a fairly liberal staffer or something OR just that the letter written was particularly a good one or something. I do not personally know anybody to have had lower surgery (male that is). (There are people I don't know one way or another.) Anyway quite a few have had their SS marker changed. I am pretty sure they had top surgery. But just to say it has been done. I think the comments by the doctor focused on the "irreversible" changes part.

The SSA once released a sample doctor's letter for people to follow. I can't find it now--you'll have to do some googling. The Transgender Law Center had a copy in their ID Please document, but they seem to have left off the appendices in the current version.

I don't remember the exact wording, but it's something to the effect that your transition is complete or something like that. Basically, guys can usually get by with top surgery only. It's a double standard, but a lot of us never do have bottom surgery.

P.S. Or maybe it was the State Dept. that released an actual form letter. Regardless, I think I got my letter text from the Transgender Law Center.

It was state department that changed it for letter only for passports.

I just saw this. Thank you. I'll do that when I'm ready to change everything over.
