Aina, it sounds like you might be right on the edge of honking from head to chest resonance, you're scared of that and so you whisper.  If you can get into middle voice, that feeling goes away.

This "buh-buh-buh" exercise helps me.

(and the other similar videos in the same channel)
but if you don't sing, it might be very hard.

Okay, I don't feel anywhere near done yet, but I'd appreciate a second (third, etc.) opinion.  I think the lower one sounds better at the moment, but I need to practice at the (slightly) higher pitch to exercise my voice.  Don't want to get ahead of myself.

The second one, though in a higher range, sounds a bit forced and unnatural.
The first one sounds much more natural, albeit the voice of a mature woman.

If it was me, I would try to build on what you've got in clip #1.  Let me add, however, that I don't believe in reading from a text.  It would be better if you just talked about something for a minute.

I'm 23 going on about 13.  Not a great fit for me then, but yeah I did have a holy-wow! moment when I found that voice.  If nothing else, I think the resonance / "placement" or whatever you'd call it is good.

The next step for me will be to listen to podcasts and try to reverse-engineer the late-teen-to-20-something voice I want.

I concur. The second one sounded as if you were straining yourself, while your first recording seemed normal.

I will give this a try for sure Music, I've been practicing a bit and plan to do another voice recording soon to post here. Most the ones I do are just for me to play back and listen to over and over!  :P

As promised, I did another voice test.

https://soundcloud.com/ainamiharu/8-23-13-voice-test

In this one I've attempted to speak a bit more louder or not really louder but with more projection.

Tell me what you think.

Once classes start again for me on Tuesday i'll have a nice hour commute to practice and should help improve hehe.

Aww and here I thought I was speaking louder - is there a reason for this? I mean it "sounds" louder to me but when I record it doesn't record as loud as it sounds like I am talking.

Yeah, it can't be louder without also being less breathy, which means letting go of some of the girliness.

I'm shooting for a feminine-androgynous sound now so I can get comfortable with a high larynx position without straining.  I don't know if it's where I'll end up ultimately.

Best, I think, is to listen to and imitate women you want to sound like.

Your voice sound very feminine-androgynous to me or at the very least very close, I am not the best one to give advice, when I am a whisper apparently I am going to look up this Sonic Visualizer and see how well I do.

I still hate my voice. 2 years of training and over 1 year with speech therapist, and they are talking about to transfer me to another speech therapist who have more experience...

Recorded today.

I don't know the language (Dutch?  Swedish?) but the acoustics sound completely natural, like sister and brother, to my foreign ears.

The first half of the tape sounds entirely feminine to me!  I can't believe the difference between that and your male voice.

I love your voice.

You shouldn't it is very very good very feminine and it is as if there are two different people speaking.

Your voice is stunning....just perfect, I think. And it sounds strong, and natural. You should be proud!!!

And I've never liked my male or my female voices, but people compliment me on both, so maybe it's just that we are perfectionists who are never satisfied?? LOL

Found some alone time, so I didn't feel like someone would hear me practice and I believe I was able to actually record something remotely normal volume!

So, I've kind of gotten some opinions on my voice before, during my vlogs and various video presentation checks, but honestly I wasn't really happy with my voice even though everyone says that I sounded great.

Well, today, after 8 months straight of doing self-studied voice therapy, I finally made a voice recording that I was actually happy with. So I wanted to see what everyone else thought, if you think there's any way that someone could clock this voice as being trans or not... and if there's anything else at all that I can do to improve on it.

Female Voice:

And for comparison, here's my current natural speaking voice, where I'm not attempting to alter my tone, inflection, or resonance whatsoever:
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1fQ4tKIEezV
(I'm getting gendered female on the phone probably like 85% of the time recently with this natural voice, so it's not much of a guy voice anymore... my lower voice just pretty much evaporated.)

And just so that everyone can know what my original "guy voice" sounded like, here's a promotion for my college radio station that I recorded back in 2010 for my Audio Production class: (I've lost the ability to speak in this vocal range now.)

Geez Carrie! Your voice sounds stellar, perfecto, wunderbar!!

Seriously impressed over here :D
  •

musicofthenight

Absolute perfection.

Okay, I noticed one tiny bug.  "Talking."  It's got a "k" in it, which for whatever reason (the neighboring vowels) I have a hard time producing in this one word in female range.  And, hey, you missed it, too.

  Is there such a thing as praise by faint criticism?
