I can do nothing but repeat what Nidalexi has said.

You're beautiful.

See, I knew you had faith in yourself. ;)

Haha. That statement wasn't valid eternally, but thanks, miss A-Lot-Cuter-Than-Me.

Haha, I found the "rainbow passage" on the web:
http://www.rit.edu/ntid/speechlang/slpros/media/rainbow

This is my attempt. Somehow i think it sounds better than me trying to say random stuff ;) - still I dont quite know what it is but I still dont like SOMETHING about this. Pitch is at 180Hz, so in the lower female range I am more or less aiming at as going higher is really hard for me. If Jennygirls tutorial is right, I am in the androgynous range in terms of formants F3=2900Hz, which I guess should be improved...

How long exactly have you been practicing, and how often?  I used to be around a low range like that too, I don't quite know the Hz as I've never gotten it calculated, but after a month of solid talking in the voice (0 breaks )  my voices pitch shot up by the end of the month, and I didn't even notice it until I played the clips back to back.

well I was mostly at 140-170 I guess in the past years. recently i try 180, though i guess i drop to the 150ies or 160ies when i am in conversations again. So I somehow dont have the focus or mental strength to keep it up all the time. I used to be a bit higher but that was 13 years ago and it strained my voice until i got sore throat quite often, probably from lack of proper resonance and overcompensating for the lack of volume. So now my goal is more or less about 190, I feel awkward/fake going higher. Plus my voice breaks somewhere in the 200s :(
But I guess pitch is only my second concern currently - I need to get the other parts right and then 190 would sound ok, I think. I am no small person, so a high pitch may not fit even. I would be scared of a surgery that brings me to 250 or smth...

Nidalexi and A, thank you very much! To me it still sounds like I need allot of work, but I assume that is one of those I don't like to hear my own voice and see my own photo kind of thing!

Courtney-

I think for the most part your voice actually sounds pretty good- it definitely has a feminine base tone to it. You are within the female range of pitch- however as anyone who has learned to speak as a male, you are talking in a monotone manner which in itself does not match the way that females tend to speak. Maybe if you try deviating from that pitch up and down, it would help the sound of your voice in a big way.

A good tip I once read is to speak somewhat like a "valleygirl". Once you get the feel of bouncing your pitch around, dial it back to what feels normal / not contrived. It's not imperative to modulate your pitch so much, but it can sure help a lot :)

I hope this helps!

That definitely helps, I have only been working on my voice for about a week and I was kind of terrified that it was laughable. I actually have a lot of trouble keeping my pitch in the right range right now and I think I'm tensing up way to much and causing that flatness. I also got kind of embarrassed because I was worried about sounding funny and I think that may have something to do with it to. I will definitely try the valley girl thing for this week and post something again after that. Thanks so much. ^_^

Still getting anxiety triggers whenever I try do something (although I can control them better). Still can't get anything to sound remotely female. And since voice's the most important thing...

These samples were sent to a friend some days ago. They are quite horrible and 100% not female, not in my native language and I suck at reading, but the purpose is to check if at least resonance is gone.

Standard old voice:

No head resonance?: (Similar to my current voice)

I cand spend time and time repeating a phrase while repositioning the mouth to see how things change, but nothing in the end. The only thing for sure is that I'm keepin the adam's apple at a high position.

I'm sorry, it's too hard to tell. You have such a generally male sounding voice (though don't worry about that, it's obvious you're not even trying on that point yet) that I can't get my brain to go in such detail as to analyze if this is a male voice but with less resonance. I just hear male and I can't go any further. I think you'll have to get further, to make progress in the other details of your voice, for me to be able to hear improvement. Maybe someone else can tell, but I can't.

By the way, the first link leads nowhere.

Bad links. The two where pointing to the "male", which is not my natural voice anymore. Try now for the "high".

No chest resonance (similar to how I usually talk):

Old original voice
https://soundcloud.com/altus-3/normal3
I was talking to a friend on xbox live, dropped to full chest resonance  for the first timeand he was like "This is a joke. That can't be your real voice".

I've tried to raise pitch a bit more without moving into falsetto.
https://soundcloud.com/altus-3/higher-03-11-2013

It is sounding far worse on record, and not so different (I need to set the proper recording system on the computer), but that's  what I have been using by "default" nowadays, while in male andro mode. I have some new voices to record, but something is quite messed currently, so I can't record. Currently with Candyfla. Tomorrow I'll continue with the breating and warming exercises.

First link is broken again.

Third link... It's really quiet and short, but from what I can hear, it sounds quite all right!

Here is a YouTube video of where I am at with life...

"Human beings are no longer born to their place in life, and chained down by an inexorable bond to the place they are born to, but are free to employ their faculties, and such favourable chances as offer, to achieve the lot which may appear to them most desirable."

Jamie, I think your voice is starting to get there. Based on your facial expression you look like your trying to hard. Your volume is a bit lower and you almost sound like your right at falsetto level.

I use to always go from falsetto then bring it down, which helped at the start but I found I was always sounding like I was talking in falsetto when doing earlier recordings - but I found when I practice now I can just go into the range I want with out falsetto. Try that, I also do this one practice technique I learn from someone video were you count to practice your pitch. So 1 lower pitchs, 2 higher, 3 lower pitch ect.

Frostice, I think your voice sounds great, but not knowing your language and how women of your culture speak like. Have you ever did any recordings in English?

Ok - yesterday I think I "slipped" for a while into a voice that sounded differently, I think mostly in resonance. Maybe it is because of the voice training I did. It was kind of weird and it felt a bit from memory like the voice I did at some point in the past after I did the MPA voice training. I am not sure though as the recording does sound not as I hear it.
Here is a short recoding (in german, sorry): http://vocaroo.com/i/s0rH7UxQHTWZ

What is really weird is that praat cannot deal with it - it does give me a F0 of 422 Hz, which obviously is impossible but it seems not to be able to detect the baseline. If I pick single vowels I get the F0 again as usually at 150-160 Hz.

I just begin to exercise my voice. I really have no idea how, but i like to exercise it by singing. I know this would sound very bad but i have to try. Feel free to laugh  ;D

please give me some comment and advice.

Neat Alisha - I would not dare singing :P - now about the voice - I think you are holding the mic a bit too close, but it seems you are singing at a rather low volume and i think you may be missing some resonace that makes the voice stronger. But generally it does sound female with some parts hinting to a falsetto when you are reaching for the upper tones I think. But others are more qualified to say anything ;)
