Dash, to me, your voice recording just sounds like a northern woman talking - sounds good :)

I've been trying my voice on and off for over a year, usually giving up out of shyness (the walls are really thin next to both my neighbours) and embarassement (I'm really self-critical so I end up cringing a lot and shutting down too early).

Anyway, the last couple of weeks I've managed to overcome these two things somewhat and practice far more consistently.

How bad is my voice? Honest criticism is welcome.

Your pitch is good : ), but I'd try lowering a little. One of my biggest flaws in practicing at the moment is to go too high.

Thanks : ). You don't think it sounds too male though? One of my biggest problems in practicing that it can be such a head screw trying to objectively pick apart what works with my voice in recordings because I'm forever hearing the masculine aspects of it having lived with it for so long.

Sounds excellent. 😁

Cheers hun. : )

Two new passages after some prolonged practicing (got so sick of the rainbow one).

What do you ladies think? It's the voice I'll be using publically tomorrow when I go for my glottonplasty consultation.

You sound decent Dash. Tone of voice and speaking pattern is quite good, though some vowel sounds were worse than others. Pitch is on the low side but at avg. pitch of 150hz you are not too bad, just on the bottom end of female range I am reckoning. Your voice does swing up and down though a little which of course is good, that is typical of female speech patterns though this does mean you sometimes drop a tad low, 130hz or so. On the bright side it also shows how you can reach higher pitches since parts of your recording do reach 180hz which is solidly in female range.

Have you ever had speech therapy?

THIS. IS. AWESOME. I love your voice so much, well done, well done. So soothing. You should look into audiobooks. ;) Don't worry about your voice dropping down, my does lots and I think that you'll be doing less and less of that with time. Remember, we are essentially asking our vocal cords to run a marathon here!  ;D

I've begun working on this a few days ago and could really use a second opinion. I myself, don't think I pass. But, thoughts? :)

Original Voice: https://soundcloud.com/josieberrry/male
Female Voice: https://soundcloud.com/josieberrry/female
Accent: https://soundcloud.com/josieberrry/accent

(I've seen a couple times where someone sounds more passable under an accent, so I thought I'd give that a try)

Dash, your accent is gorgeous, I love it... how old are you if you don't mind me asking, I ask because your voice does pass, I just want to know exactly what type of critique you're hoping for as in age, pitch, ect.

I was really glad to see this thread still alive and kicking.
I'm new to posting here at Susan's so forgive me if I'm barging in on your conversation.
I am MTF and 66 yrs. old  ;D
That's just to give you all a little background on me. I have been on E for over a year now and don't look too bad for an old lady (I'll post a pic or two when I have enough posts to be allowed :) or at least put my face on my Avatar), so I've been told I pass pretty well, however when I open my big fat mouth....ugh!
I bought an online course for voice training, but when I try to get the resonance right, and then the pitch, my voice cracks like Mrs. Doubtfire. At my age I have a bit of croupy cough that results, and then I really have problems trying until I can clear my throat. Then it's back to cracking and sounding like I'm going through male puberty (which was a bad memory for me). Any help? Plus I don't have a recorder so I don't really know what I sound like....to my own ear I sound horrible.
Again I'm sorry for breaking in, I just need a bit of help if you all don't mind.

Hey everyone! I just figured I would post an update for you all. I got some really great feedback last time, so some reassurance would mean a lot right now. As I note in my recording, I'm pretty sure my voice passes because I never get weird looks when I use it in public, and people gender me correctly; I even had an hour-long talk on the metro with a cis woman and I completely passed, so...I think I just need to embrace my voice more?

Anyway, I hope you all are well! I've been away due to some life changes, but I am definitely back now!

First of all, girl you sound great :) I think that you sound more natural this time around. Now that you are using your oice everyday, it will just get more and more natural sounding. Keep up the great work!!

Throwing my hat in the ring, so to speak. I've been speaking like this for over a year now, so I know it passes, and I'm comfortable with it, but I'd still like some opinions from some more discerning ears. So here's the ubiquitous 'rainbow passage' in my normal speaking voice. I can go higher fairly comfortably and sound normal, but it's not as natural for me.

So, this will be my first time uploading my voice here. I'm nervous; I feel very uncertain about my voice because at times I think I'm moving in a good direction, and at other moments I think I've simply deceived myself that I sound anything less than like a man. I want to have a somewhat deeper female voice, one that will sound female over the phone or in any situation not involving visuals that might otherwise help me pass, as I am far less worried about visual passing; my voice is the main problem. I have been ma'am'ed only once based on my voice alone, which was at a Starbucks drive-thru speaker, and that made feel euphoric for a bit, but then I got Sir'd at another drive-thru speaker about two weeks later. I wasn't using the same voice--I think the second voice had 'slipped' back into my male range more--but it still made me feel crummy for a bit.

This is my latest attempt. Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have! http://vocaroo.com/i/s1eLDIkB2yVw

Hi Ashey,

I think your voice unquestionably sounds passable, as you know, and, beyond that, I think it sounds quite lovely! The only things I noticed are so minor that I would not have really thought to mention them had you not asked, which were that your voice has a slight nasal quality at times, and a few of your linking words are slightly slurred--not that it prevents me from understanding said words or makes your voice unclear. It was just something I noticed, the way that most words were enunciated quite well, though a few others seemed a bit rushed, pronunciation-wise. But this is nothing more than nit-picking because you asked for it. Your voice sounds beautiful, and I'm not just saying that to be nice.

I think you sound better than last time!

You're definitely getting there, just need to work on the resonance I think. There are a few lower tones but it would gender female for me.

I wish I could have heard more in a clearer setting but you sound pretty good. I'd give it a pass, in passing.
