So, I've been using this voice for public for a while now but I am really not sure about it. My family says it's alright but I'm really iffy on it when I hear my self.

Anyway, here's the link: http://vocaroo.com/i/s1OKxjyy5nkO

How is it? I think I keep changing pitch but I'm not sure.

Dena said it sounds young and I agree a bit. But it may fit you. I sound like a 20 something year old at times but I also look it sometimes.

Wait, how young is young? Cause I'm turning 26 next year.

By young, I mean teen years. If you have a small body size then the voice would go with the body size. If you are like me at 5'14" it would be a bit out of place and may present a rather different confusing set of passing problems as people wouldn't be able to match the voice with the body.

It was a short clip and a little hard to judge but the pitch sound good, inflection should good and it also sounds like you have the faster female delivery rate nailed as well. To me it sounds like a young adult female and I detect no flaws. Well done.

Hello all,

My fiancee says my voice needs no work, but I waver back and forth between thinking its ok and thinking a nip/tuck may make things nicer. Thoughts on if this sounds feminine?

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0nrbxzGItId

It passes for me. There is only a teeny tiny bit of lower undertone but that is easily overlooked

I hate my voice. This is the best I can do at attempting a female voice while reading a text. I still have a hard time raising my pitch in real-life conversation or over the phone. It just sounds so fake and forced like I am a man pretending to be a girl. I having been practicing on my own for about 4 months but I seem to be making little progress. I know my voice is preventing me from passing - everytime I open my mouth I am instantly outed as trans.

This is another recording that is more natural since I am not reading from a text. Probably a closer approximation of the "natural" voice I use when speaking with people in real-life. As you can tell the pitch is still in the male range.

It sound feminine but it could use the nip and tuck. The two areas would be it has almost continuous vocal fry. A small amount on low notes give the illusion the that is the bottom of your range but it shouldn't be continuous. The other issue is it could use a bit more inflection. You have a fair amount so a small amount more would do the job.

I only listened to your natural voice as that will be the critical voice for you. The base pitch seem to be about 190 to 200Hz which is in the feminine range. The inflection also sounds good with one small issue. Every once in a while your voice dips just a little bit to low. I suspect most people would never pick up on it. Over all you have done a pretty good job with the voice and should be proud of it and not worry so much about it.

The second voice is not too bad but I can see how you'd be clocked by it. The lower undertones and resonance seem to be the issue. You can probably train those out. Look for "finding your female voice" by Andrea James which is free (ad supported) on YouTube now.

The first one is borderline passable. I would say that it does slip down sometimes as Dena said. There is still some resonance in that too.

But you have a good foundation I would say.

I'm so iffy with my voice I just want to squeal because I just don't know what works. I've always had a really squeaky voice and although I'm turning 19 soon I still get mistaken for a 13 or 14 year old... So my voice is just... weird.

Here is my voice with not much effort. It sounds blegh http://vocaroo.com/i/s01B66waEiIY

Here is my voice with a teensie bit of effort. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1QNqAbk8kYm  I think I sort of dropped pitch as I went farther into the article I read. <<

Here is my voice with a lot more effort. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1FYjvSGL3tY Honestly this one doesn't even sound female to me, just a little boy. u -u

Here is with an even higher pitch but I think it sounds really fake. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1C01nvv3acS

I can understand why people think you are 13 or 14 years old. You are higher than you need to be and that makes you sound young. Get some software on your phone or computer then target the 220 to 240 Hz range. You are better off staying away from a squeaky voice unless you wish to remain 13 years old. I don't think you have the vocal ability to do a squeaky voice without sounding fake.

I first voice sounds feminine (young girl) and other than the pitch, it is very believable.

I would like to know what your before voice is like because it may not have changed and may be in the feminine range.

I think your first "low effort" voice actually sounds really really good - super feminine and passable. Just maybe bring it down a notch.

The first voice is all you need.

The rest sound too high.

Stick with the first one.

Actually that sounds perfectly natural. I felt the same way when I started though. Thought for a long time I was too low and that pitching up was too unnatural. Well, the pitching up turned out to be the problem, and almost prevented me from getting it right. Women can have low speaking voices a lot of the time, or even gravelly, throaty, 'husky' kind of voices which you don't even have. Plus vocal fry is a common thing these days, and some low croaky creakiness is almost an unconscious trend now. And that kind of thing happens to me a bit when my voice lowers. To me I feel like my voice is a lot lower than it is, but then when I lower it to what it was, I realize the difference. When relaxed, my voice is around the middle of my overall range and is still female enough though it may start getting androgynous if it went any lower. So keep in mind that the female range is broad.
