I'm so iffy with my voice I just want to squeal because I just don't know what works. I've always had a really squeaky voice and although I'm turning 19 soon I still get mistaken for a 13 or 14 year old... So my voice is just... weird.

Here is my voice with not much effort. It sounds blegh http://vocaroo.com/i/s01B66waEiIY

Here is my voice with a teensie bit of effort. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1QNqAbk8kYm  I think I sort of dropped pitch as I went farther into the article I read. <<

Here is my voice with a lot more effort. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1FYjvSGL3tY Honestly this one doesn't even sound female to me, just a little boy. u -u

Here is with an even higher pitch but I think it sounds really fake. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1C01nvv3acS
The first voice - hte "no effort" voice sounds totally fine to me - not masuline at all and certainly in the female pitch range. Don't get hung up on trying to improve your voice too much - it is already good and you should definitely not go higher or force your voice into something. You can be happy to have a good voice while relaxing. Don't let someone tell you it is too masculine.

I do not like my voice, but would like to know how it sounds, but as much honest as possible, what is bad what is needed to improve. I am trying few months to improve my voice, but it sounds terrible to me, I do not know :/ . I may pass somehow, because I am talking with this voice (which is actually regular one now) to people and was not misgendered with it. (Face to face or via internet.)

Pitch and inflection sounds good. Sounds a bit nasal but is that your microphone? It sounds like you were talking into a cardboard tube.

Hi all, here's my voice... I've been practicing on and off for quite some time.  I wish I could afford voice surgery, but that's at the moment a bit too expensive.  Anyway, honest comments and suggestions are welcomed!

A pretty good start. I think once you get the resonance under control you'll have a decently passable voice.

The voice sounds good but the nasal is something else. She isn't a native english speaker and in her native language blocking the sinus cavities when speaking is the proper way to generate the correct sounds. Her english is very good but the sinus cavity thing is a carry over from her native language.

I would say it's a great voice, very passable and you shouldn't need to worry about it.

The primary issue with the voice is the lack of inflection. Your voice needs a little more emotional punch to take away the monotone. The pitch sounds like it's pretty close to where it should be and it's a good start on your voice.

The first three sound amazing! In the fourth one, your voice feels like it's really tense, but I guess that's just because you were trying to get the highest pitch possible. You sound great! (Although, I do have to agree that you sound pretty young.)

You have improved but it still sounds like you are in the 160-170 Hz range which is a bit on the low side. You should be around 190 on the low end and if you can handle it 220 Hz would be better. if not, target 190 Hz. Get Praat on your computer or Pitch Lab on your mobile device to check your pitch. You have inflection and really the only issue appears to be pitch. The chart will give you a feel where voices fall in the pitch.

That is really great to know! Thanks! I'm working on slowly increasing my pitch, because if I try to move it too much my voice just falls apart.

While I cannot clearly understand everything you are saying I do hear a woman's voice.  Clearly a woman's voice.

I agree.  Raise your pitch and play with your pitch a lot more.  Man speak is monotone.  Woman speak is filled with dipthong and fluctuations.  I find it best to resonate in the "mask" ie: the teeth and jaw and nose.  You can tell if you're resonating here by making a zzzzzzzzzz sound.  Move the sound around your face until your teeth vibrate.  That means you're resonating in the mask.  You want to keep the sound out of the chest and not too far up into the nose.

Also, there's kind of a squeeze you put on your voice to kick it over the gender wall.  Just a little bit of a squeeze and it does the trick.

This is a rough recording of my voice without warming up into it.  I don't live full time girl yet so I still drop down into male range often.  Constructive criticism is very welcome.

This recording is a more relaxed version where I let pitch sink low.  Does it come across as male? I'm experimenting/practicing.

Your voice hovers the gender line in my opinion but I think it's passable.  Maybe raise the pitch a little and try to resonate in the mask but I think you're voice is very good.

Last I checked voice surgery was not often successful.  I think the surgery is still very new and they don't know what they're doing but I haven't looked into this procedure in a couple years.

Your voice is pretty good as is.  A couple things that may make it more feminine is to resonate in the mask ie: in the teeth and jaw.  And to try to NOT let the sound resonate in your chest.  Resonating in the chest can make a voice boom which often sounds masculine.  And maybe raise the pitch just a little.

Hello all,

My fiancee says my voice needs no work, but I waver back and forth between thinking its ok and thinking a nip/tuck may make things nicer. Thoughts on if this sounds feminine?

Rachel your voice is very very good.  Keep working at it.  I think you are very close to a purely feminine voice.  During the sound clip where you were just casually speaking often, your voice sounds 100% woman.  It hits a masculine note when you let the pitch drop and when you resonate in the chest.  When you're resonating in the face/jaw/teeth and you're using the higher pitch demonstrated in the sound clip you have a beautiful feminine voice.

I haven't practiced speaking in a more feminine voice very much, but I am a semi-competent singer so I have some sort of idea of what I'm doing. I also sound nervous in the recordings, which is a mixture of me not knowing what to say and the fact that there's other people in the house. They all know that I'm trans, but I probably sound a bit silly talking to myself.

The first one is just me speaking in my everyday voice. I naturally have a pretty deep voice (sits around 100hz), and have about three octaves of range in my modal register.

http://vocaroo.com/i/s1ZFBD8oGE7f

The second is near the top of my range, or at least as high as I can get before I have to belt. Belting is way to loud for talking though. It worries me that's is so high up in my range because my speech may be squished pitch wise. It's about 200hz.

http://vocaroo.com/i/s09XHHzzRE6v

The last one I'm straining my voice but it gets me 50hz higher. I don't really want to talk in this voice since it will hurt in the long run, and it sounds strained. On a side note I say "215" but I mean 250.
