clothing dilemma

not that this is a huge deal, its really not. its prolly not even important. but its annoying to me and i jus wanna vent i guess. im a short dude, like 5'1 and im skinny like 115lbs at most but i do have hips and a lil extra there...not too noticable tho. anyway i LOVE baggy jeans and big tees. i used to wear southpole and all that type of ->-bleeped-<- and i kno thats bad for someone like me, makes me look shorter and jus ->-bleeped-<-ty in general. im almost 3mo on t so im hopin jus by bein bigger in general (closer to a year on t) i can rock bigger clothing

Work out your upper body, it'll make your chest and arms bigger, detracting from the look of wide hips. Also, vertical stripes make you look taller, and a defined 'belt line' helps too. Like, where your shirt meets your belt, tuck in a bit. It makes a clean break and adds to the illusion of height. I'm super tall but pretty skinny, so I rock the baggy pants with a 'muscle' shirt. It makes my upper half look broad and it hides the broad back end

Works pretty well. Give it time, you'll find a style that works with the look you're going for and what falls well on ya.

My clothes fit me much better than they did before and I'm over a year on testosterone.
That's because I work out pretty much every day though and has nothing to do with my height.
I'm about the same height as you and doubt that anything from Southpole will ever fit me properly.

Know how you feel. I sometimes wear Victorian clothes, but it fits so bad some places. I'm 5'1 too and I'm pretty sad because of my hight. All my friends so I shouldn't care, but it's so hard not to care.
It is however good to hear that might change when I get on t

I'm having trouble with pants too. Everything took some degree of trial and error. I went thru a few types and brands of underwear, even button down shirts aren't great in sizing sometimes-- but more because I am trying to hide my chest. Pants are the worst. I never thought I had huge hips but men's sizing doesn't work that great. I actually have a bit of a stomach and then hips. I am also 5'1" OTOH, I love the pockets and they make me feel more male, so....
Right now I am pre-T.

My height is the major problem with buying clothes that I have, I always think that 28" trousers or XS / S shirts will fit me, but in reality all that ever fits me properly is 13 year old boys clothes. Which is fine because it's cheap and you don't pay VAT on them, but it is slightly embarrassing. I don't think that's ever going to change if I go on T, there's only so much you can alter clothes before they just look stupid, but if you're problem is filling the clothes out so they don't look like you're a little kid trying on his dad's clothes then I would of thought that should change.

The pants that fit me best I found out are low riders. I wonder if it is because I am wearing them the wrong place but they fit how I am wearing them. Wonder if this is a cue?

I'm relatively tall (5'7") and I still have a hard time finding clothes that fit. I usually have to wear stuff from the boys dept. instead of men's, because even wearing a small I still look like a little kid trying on their dad's clothes. Might be something to try until you can build some upper-body mass, there's a lot of stuff in kid sizes that looks like something a grownup would wear.

I just got back from the thrift store and I found something interesting. Boys size 20. 18 I knew about. Anyway, got some pants and don't even have to cut ten feet off the bottom (though sadly they do have to be taken up a bit, and I am dreadful at sewing). But just saying might be a possibility for some people. There isn't so much available in it, is all.

Not that it helps anyone, but this thread totally made me feel better about never having clothes that fit.
I'm 5'7, so kinda on the short side of average, but men's size small or medium fits me when I can actually find it.

Different brands def have different ideas on sizing though....I see some pretty buff guys who still look like they're drowning in their SouthPole

^^^this is what annoys me. The shortest I ever find is a 30 and I'm ALWAYS walking on them. I hate rolling them up though; it just looks really weird on me.

I never have clothes that fit. Most of my shirts are button ups and are too small upper chest area and my pants are always too long so they have to be hemmed. Sucks.

I'm about 5'2" and a half and weight 130lbs. Working out definitely helped me (and I'm not on T but I put on 15lbs from working out) just feel better about myself in general. Back in the day I totally used to rock the baggy pants and stuff but it did just make me look like crap. I just ended up looking short/fat. Sometimes it takes a while though to fall into what the best style for you is. And being short, just plan on having to hem pants. Although it is kind of trendy now to roll up pant legs on jeans and khaki type pants. But still that will only get you so far. Some pants are just better hemmed rather than rolled.

yeah one of my ftm friends is really short with really wide hips and he always has trouble with pants. the only trouble i have is im really slim so i can only wear skinny and or really slim pants. i am taller then average ftms im 5'9"ish 140lbs.

Holy snot you're skinny, hahahaha! I'm 6'0 and 160, and I thought I was small...

As a side note, I think pants are always going to be an issue for us. Well, most of us, at least. I have this problem all the time where the pockets of slacks stay stuck open... It's rather odd. Like my hips cause my pants to grow 'ears', makes me look chubby as all get out. I've gotten lucky at Goodwill a few times because the odd sizes are more common there. I got a pair of 36x30's that fit me pretty darn well, they just sit waaay low.

yea, pants are a pain. I find I can buy pants that fit around my waist at a thrift store and then pay 15 bucks to have the inseam taken up and that usually works. I figure 2 dollars for the pants and 15 bucks on a tailor and I'm still ahead of the game. I also buy the size 18 or 20 button downs for work and they look decent. I tried adult men's wear and the arms were all too long. The short ( 5'1" ??) salesman told be he has to get all his shirt cuffs altered. Its not just us. Actually, since I'm no longer trying to be someone I'm not ( a girl), and not dressing like people tell me I should - my money is going a lot farther!!!

I think pants are always going to be an issue for us.

The length deal is always a problem because it works off of standards. That's why suit pants are never sold finished, it's always assumed they have to be tailored to length (which also depends on the shoes you wear).

If it helps, when I had to present male all the clothes were always waaay too huge for me but... I didn't care 'cause I liked being small and in response to that nobody ever judged me about it

But yep you should get your pants hemmed. Well, some places will sell pants with a 29" inseam but that is rare (and personally was still too long for me, gawd I have such short legs even for a girl

) so it's best just to get pants that you like and have them hemmed. Don't walk on them!!!!!

You could also learn to do it yourself or maybe if your gramma has a sewing machine you could ask her
