SCRANTON – A transgender inmate who sued the Luzerne County prison four times in a nine-month period ended up on the losing end once again after a federal jury determined guards did not use excessive force in removing her from a cell.

The verdict, reached in the case of Shawn Quinnones, was the latest victory for the county in a series of lawsuits filed by Quinnones that have cost taxpayers more than $90,000 to defend.

Quinnones, a transgender who was born a male but lives life as a female, filed the federal lawsuits, alleging various violations of her civil rights during her 10-month incarceration at the county facility in 2008.

Three of the lawsuits were dismissed by federal judges before they went to trial. The final case, which alleged Quinnones was injured while being forcibly removed from her cell, went to trial in federal court in Wilkes-Barre last week.

sounds like she is in it for attention than anything else. If a judge throws out a lawsuit before it even making trial then there was some pretty die hard frivolous law suits going on there.

Personally, I cannot stand people who love lawsuits...especially when they cost other tax payers.

When i was a cop 10 years ago, we had a method of extracting a prisoner from a cell who did not want to leave the cell.

1. We asked them to leave the cell
2. We tell them the consequences and the process of the extraction process as noted in their inmate handbook they received the first day entering the facility
3. We ask them a third time
4. We spray the cell with a pepper spray mist
5. Guards (4) in riot gear then enters the cell
6. First guard with shield blocks any punches or attacks from the inmate
7. Second Guard secures their wrists and places inmate on the ground, face facing floor and handcuffs wrists
8. Third and fourth Guard handcuffs ankles
9. Riot captain wheels in constraint chair.
10. Inmate is secured in constraint chair and wheeled out of cell

It's much easier to leave your cell on your own accord.

Annah,

Thank you for having once worn a badge and putting your life on the line to make sure people like me can sleep soundly and enjoy our communities with at least some safety. As a survivor of a violent kidnapping by a parent in the very early years of my life, I have always respected officers even if I hate the laws and disagree with our law makers at times. I think we can agree that they can make some pretty frivolous laws here and there.
There's more to me than what I thought
