Has anyone else experienced a torn or separated  a neck (phatysma) muscle following FFS?  After having a tracheal shave and jaw/masseter muscle work I had a lump under both the left and right side of my jaw.  I was told to massage aggressively and regularly,  I took anti inflammatory medicine and received a number of steroid injections and was told that these lumps were not uncommon but would go away in time.   I was told that if they didn't go away then revision surgery would be provided at no cost

Anyway long story short after 18 months the lumps have not gone away and the promised jaw line has not emerged.  I spoke with 4 separate surgeons and each diagnosed a torn muscle   I have it repaired tomorrow and am told to expect a very good result.  They said that damage to this muscle is not that uncommon during neck surgery but this was the first time I had heard of it.  I didn't find any reference to this type of problem during my research into neck lumps post surgery.  Has anyone else had this result?

My surgeon said that the phatysma muscle probably separated during the lower ffs when a skin lift was used to tighten loose skin following jaw work, masseter muscle reduction and a tracheal shave.  He suspects that scarring adhered to the skin and helped separate the muscle which also often occurs with age.  Anyway it has now been fixed and I now have a jaw line and a more youthful neck ie no lumps

hi. who was your original surgeon, just out of interest? was the revision with the original surgeon or a different one? it would be good to know who the second surgeon was as you seem to be very pleased with your results? are all the problems/complications gone now, or is there anything else still lingering that bothers you?

Hi. Original work was by Dr Z. Repair was by Anand Deva, I am still very happy with Dr Z's original work apart from the separation and scarring which may not have been a direct result of Dr Z's tracheal shave. In hindsight the skin lift didn't make a lot of sense but it seemed to promise a quick improvement in tightening the skin following a lot of lower face and jaw work.  The better answer, and one which I have now taken is a neck and lower face smas lift.   Took years off my face, gave me a better jaw line, fixed the scars and now shows off the great work that Dr Z had performed elsewhere

from FFS no. but some of the doctors i work with fixt things like that so it should give you some comfort to know that the recovery for that is often 95%-100% firl  ;)
