Starting Out/ Prometrium Question
November 07, 2012, 03:50:35 PM
I feel like I'm living in Surrealville...but in a great way!
I was afraid to even talk about today because I had to cancel my first attempt at meeting my endo for the first time. Today, not only did I meet him, but I got my prescriptions! YAY!!!
Question, though: I was expecting something like exactly what he prescribed: estradiol and spironolactone. It did surprise me that I also was prescribed prometrium. I'm almost 50...anyone have thoughts on this (good/bad/indifferent)?
After all the hoping and thoughts I would never be here...I'm staring at my presciptions and just flooded with emotions of happiness of having achieved what has been a very difficult to realize process. WOW.

Every endo seems to do this differently. For example mine has me on estrogen alone. Once we reach stable estrogen levels, he'll add an anti-androgen. At about 15-18 months he said he'll add progesterone for about 2 years then back it out.
This is as much art as science so trust your endocrinologist especially if they've been doing it for years and years. They develop approaches that work for them so work with your endo.
The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.

No this is firmly a science. It's just a shame most doctors pay little notice to the science.

Most endos guestimate on the dosages of prometrium and estrogen levels, since no established studies have been done to establish a universal protocol, like diabetes, or high cholesterol, shame.
