Hi all,

Just thought I'd drop in and let you know that there is a UK show/doco about two transmen on ABC2 tonight here in Aus, starting at 9:30pm AEDT, or 9:30pm AEST for us Queenslanders.

Show Synopsis: The story of two young men named Sam and Evan who met, fell in love, and embarked on a remarkable transgender journey together to transform their bodies from girls to men.

I know its a bit after 9:30 in the southern states right now, but you will be able to watch it for up to a week after it airs on ABC iView through their website, or your Xbox/AppleTV/Ps3, whatever.

Thanks for the YouTube link - I must've missed this on UK TV, but it was great to watch. It's wonderful that we've recently had a spate of sensitive, positive documentaries about trans people.

However, there's a scene about 45 mins in that really affected me. Evan's mum puts his old prom dress over his shoulders and squeals "Oh, don't you look pretty!". Ye gods, that's exactly the sort of thing my mother used to do to me. She used to think if only I understood how pretty I was, I'd be happy about being a girl. She simply didn't get it.

I can't believe how much that scene annoyed me. I had to get up and leave the room for a bit to calm down.

Not only that, but everyone she'es the young couple to the camera of you notice it.

Yeah, I saw that too - but I played Devil's Advocate by noting that most of the 'she's happened when they were talking about the past before either of them came out. There were a few glaring slip-ups though. There were more 'she's for Evan than for Sam, which just underlines the importance of T for FtMs like Evan if you want to pass.

I've said this a couple of times in other threads, but people (and parents in particular) like to fit other people into little boxes so that they feel comfortable about who they are - and those boxes are of the parent's own design based on their presumptions about who they would ideally like you to be. Then when you tell them who you really are, they think you're betraying them by destroying their illusions about you... but really, they were deluding themselves all along by trying to impose their presumptions on you.

I can't stand parents like that: my parents did it to me and I've made very sure that I haven't repeated that mistake with my kids.

Friday evening seems to be ABC2's time slot for Gender and Sexuality programming.  We had "My TS Summer" the weeks before.
