I'm graduating from community college this May and I'm starting to fill out my transfer applications. For one of the colleges, a personal essay is not required but you can submit a personal statement if you would like to. I want to submit the personal statement just to get that edge over the applicants that do not submit a personal statement. I'm well over the GPA requirement for the school but I still want to write the statement. I'm just hesitant as to if I should tell them I am a FTM and that I can contribute to the college in this way because I don't think this school has a big trans community. I guess I'm just asking for your help on what you think I should do. All opinions are welcome! Thanks!

If you feel comfortable letting them know you're trans go for it!

This talks a little about writing about how you're trans for law school applications.

If you don't see any reason not to, I don't see why not. No one can tell you to come out to the admissions people or not; that's up to you.

It may, however, spice up your chances of getting in even more, though I'm not sure. I'm not going to college, despite being highly qualified, so I don't pay attention to that stuff. All I know is that overcoming a personal struggle could be good on an application for sympathy points.  :P

thanks that link had some great videos! I decided to also email the head of the LGBT club to see how they think admissions would react to my personal statement.
