Is finding jeans supposed to be so hard?

Jeans are funny, the more worn out they get, the better they are (in my opinion.) My old pair was finally getting to a nice (un)respectable level, but the weight I lost last year had them sagging very uncomfortably on me, and they were guys jeans anyway. I've been long overdue for an upgrade  :D

Today I finally tracked down a pair of jeans that fits me (and hopefully still will after washing), 4 petite. I've got an odd waistline from my scoliosis operations, so I was lucky that they're on the hip fit. They were also the only pair of size 4 jeans that I saw in 3 stores in the mall. Granted, I only wear black jeans so I mostly ignored the ones that weren't, but I don't remember seeing any other 4s or 2s of any cut or style in those stores. What the hell?

The other store, dillards, had plenty of 4s, and even 2s which would have fit in a different cut, but they were $80-140! Of course, with how hard it was to find these, I can see women being driven to pay that. Luckily these were only $21.

Is it just a matter of being a common size so they're sold out? I'd think there would be more people wearing 4s than 14-18, but it seems like that's half the inventory.

i suppose that many manufacturers have found that a single style of jean will be more appealing to more women if there is a stretch in the denim using Lycra.

i don't know.  have you noticed the number of obese women walking the streets, riding the trains, eating at fast-food restaurants?  soon we'll only be able to find size 24W and up!  >:D

Yes!  I am a size 8 and I am 1.86 (metric system) tall, with really long (TOO long) legs...the best jeans I have found are Citizens of Humanity...yes they are expensive, but they don't shrink when you wash them, and they are of much better quality than  express, which wear out pretty fast. The best fitting ones I have are bootcut ones, they are extremely flattering. I also have the ingrid flares that you can get at Marks and Spencer (in the UK), and they are good too.

Buying jeans is kind of a nightmare for me - I'm an Australian size 10 (US size 6) and all of 1 Metre 95 CM (6'5") tall. I've all but given up on finding somewhere that sells women's jeans here with a leg that is long enough. And it seems the more weight I lose the harder it is - when I was a size 14 I wasn't having any problems, but I had a pretty decent selection of places that had jeans that were plenty long enough. Now, nothing. Since when are tall women supposed to be bigger women as well? I don't get it.

Pretty much my only resort left is to get a few pairs custom made. Which I don't really have the money for, unfortunately. Here's hoping I get a decent tax return this year :).

To find jeans that fit.....

I live in a town of short people, and there are plenty of thin girls out there so waist size isnt as much of a problem but lenght allways is.....

Generaly I end up going thrift store hopping and to stores like Ross.....  the high end brands tend to have longer cut jeans than the cheapy brands....  I cant afford 60+ a pair of jeans... but at good will and ross I avrage out 4-16 dollars a pair  :D     still only have maby 6 pairs of jeans but *Shrugs*  over time thattle grow.

Maby this is why TS's are known for wearing skirts LoL

A girl after my own heart.  I've found my best buys at Ross.  And they run good clearance sales.  But even though I'm only 5'7", a lot of size 6 are still too short for me.  Only 6 pairs?  You pauper!  LOL, that's way more than I've found.

I've definitely considered thrift stores (especially since jeans get better with age), but the closest one around here is like 30 minutes away. And I was afraid they wouldn't have anything that fits. Hell, with how hard it apparently is, I'm sure they've been tapped out by all the GGs.

And yeah, I noticed the leg thing. Luckily (?) I'm small with short legs, so these are almost the perfect length. they creep up a bit more than i'd like when i cross my legs, but oh well, that's the style for women anyway. They won't end up with the ends ripped off because I walk on them like my other pairs at least.

It's funny, but at least where I am, the wal-mart stocks sizes 0-26 or so. A lot of them had excessively girly/gaudy trimming and rhinestones and stuff, and none of the cuts fit my body right, but they still had all the sizes in three or four different cuts with lots of different brands. Way better selection than the mall, don't write them off.

the wallyworlds around where I live dont carry anything long enough for me....  there evil and stock according to the trends in your area....

The avrage woman in my area is between 4ft 8 and 5ft 2.....  Im 5ft 10ish so Im alittle tall for the wallyworld stock.... specialy being at a size 3-6 depending on brand and cut...   the stuff at the malls, specialy american eagle outfiters is perfect for me, but I dont have the money... but goodwill and ross have aloot of those IN the right lenght LoL.....    I dont kow, my mother works for wallyworld and has been messed over by them so badly Im lothe to buy a loaf of bread there anymore.

Jeans can be a problem that's for sure.  And just to add to the problems the sizes can differ between companies as well.  I was a size 1 before my surgery but now I'm up to a 3 so it's still difficult to find sizes.  Retailers do tend to stock those sizes that move off the shelves fastest, but like others here, I find thrift stores are a good place to find great buys.  The place that I often go to has a very good selection of sizes and styles and are very reasonably priced.

This source offers numerous fits, colors, and variations of style.  I have a considerable number of these and am happy with all.

OMG... you girls must need to hold onto something when the wind picks up!

I was looking at a pair of 4's the other day, and... there's no way a human could fit into those. Nah uh. A faerie, MAYBE. Humans? Impossible, lol...

God, I feel huge now at size 12... and yet people accuse ME of being anorexic. Go figure...

For what it's worth, where I shop (Kohl's types places) everything is 8 - 18 or so...

For those of you having difficulty finding jeans that are long enough, flip a deep cuff on those puppies (converting them to stylish capris) and pair with cute shoes or high heeled boots for a great look!

Also a little hint, if you want to *appear* less tall, buy jeans (pants) that are either bootcut or flaired, avoid straight legged or tapered they will make you look even taller. Also a lower rise will visually shorten your legs.

Jeans by definition are supposed to be hard to find.  Everybody has a differant body.  I know guys who shop for girls jeans and girls who shop for guys jeans based largely on the fact that finding a pair that fits is so hard to find.  They should just have one section called "Jeans: Good Luck Finding Something that Fits Right".

Heh, the girl ^^^^ knows her stuff ;)

I LOVE bootcuts! Pretty much all I wear, being so darn tall. And yes, tapered look the absolute *worst* on me. Being a genetic male though, my actual legs aren't very long (32") for my height (women have longer legs, proportion-wise), as my height is in my torso and neck I think... so low-rises can look kinda odd on me. I need to actually make my legs look longer (versus my torso), so I wear normal-waist pants and shorter tops (no tunics).

When I used to wear mens (and when I was younger, boys) jeans I always had a hard time finding jeans that fit me properly because I have short legs. But once I started wearing womens jeans last summer I never had that problem again. Hmmmmm, maybe when I was a kid I should have told my mom that I wanted to wear girls jeans.  :)

LoL All of my jeans are low cut flair or boot cut.....  6 jeans isnt allot, specialy sence 2 of the pair are short and painted on look and need to be tucked into my boots... and liveing in the desert you cant wear boots every day....  and the third are really fancy looking great for a night out but not day to day wear.... the 4th and 5th pairs are nice and comfortable for most everything... and the 6th pair just died and are about to become dasy<sp? dukes.

Your 6ft 2 and your legs are only 32in Kate...???  wow...  I have a 33-34in inseam at 5ft 10ish, usualy I end up setteling for maby 32s on the inseam... but most places only carry jeans that are 26-30 on the inseam in my size and thats just way too short to look good on me LoL...  I have really really long legs LoL.

That does make it hard to find.  I'm 5'7" and have a 31-32 inseam.  A lot of size 6 don't come that way..  Takes a bit of looking.

You ask any girl and she'll tell you that shopping for jeans can be hell, BUTT! find the right pair and they'll last you for ever and become that "must need" item.

I love my jeans, I do hate shopping for them but what I do is when I find a pair that fits I buy a extra pair in a diff colour/style.

I love skinny leg jeans at the moment and you think just jean shopping is hard ;)
Yes! I'm single
And you'll have to be pretty f'ing amazing to change that
