Happy Yule

I've noticed that the Christian side of our forum is already talking about Christmas...so here is a parallel thread for our pagan and Wiccan brothers and sisters.

During the pagan festival of Yule we celebrate the rebirth of the sun god and also the change of seasons. The goddess is a crone at this point in the year as it is winter.

I would encourage a slightly more Luciferian way of looking at the symbology of Yule; in the way that we should also become new and live life in a more alive way. Don't make new year promises, just begin to live by doing the little things you think would make your life more enjoyable. Promises to yourself are enjoyable to make, but easy to break.

One of my good friends is Pagan, and I want to wish her a proper Yule. When should I do this, and how should I do this? I'm sorry that I am ignorant on this, but I don't know the proper procedures. I do know that she is a pretty "old school" Pagan (her words), if that helps at all.

I wouldn't think it would be much different than wishing someone a merry Christmas or happy holidays. You would just use "Merry Yuletide" instead of "Merry Christmas". Unless you mean that you want to celebrate Yule with her; which may be a totally different situation altogether.

I did mean what to wish her, so thank you for that. I also would like to know if I should get her something, and what. I know for the summer solstice I got her some sun earrings which she loved. She is a very thoughtful person and gets me gifts for my Christian holidays. I would like to return the favor.

It's hard to say...maybe you could ask her what types of things she would want. It might ruin the surprise, but at least she'll be happy with your gift.

You could try to find her an old looking book with blank pages, it would be useful for a journal or a book of shadows (assuming she is eclectic). It might sound odd, but you could make her something like a bracelet. Although I'm just assuming that she would rather have something made by you, since most pagans would find that hand-made gifts are more desirable (somewhat of an assumption).
