Shaving or Nair

Yea, I've got another stupid question...

So for about the past month now, I've been shaving my chest and underarms.  Thankfully, I've never been real hairy, I don't actually have much to start with thank the good Lord.  So it's not that much work but I'm not doing my legs yet, I have to wait until my unsupportive soon to be ex moves out of my house (again). 

I did a search but didn't turn up anything except really old threads.  When I shave my chest, no matter how much I do it or what type of razor I use, it always seems to be a light hint of stubble left.  Why can't I just use Nair and be done with it?  Obviously I don't wanna put that under my arms, I'm sure but why not on my chest?  For sure I can use that on my legs, can't I?

They make it for your face too, does it work?  What's the best method (for at home, in the closet and scared to let the world know what you're doing) for removing hair and leaving a smooth finish.  I'm also scared of waxing, I can't take pain... I cry.

I use nair once and awhile just to save time and effort. The only thing you should worry about is 1) allergic reaction and 2) burning open sores/cuts or nipples. Personally I would be skeptical about nair for facial hair, as the face is a very sensitive patch of skin.

The only other thing you should worry about is using nair too often. Since it burns off a thin layer of your skin as well, it's not safe to use too many times in a row.

Never use Nair on your face, and never put Nair, or other brands anywhere near your eyes, it has a very good chance of  blinding you.

I had laser on my chest and that was very easy. I had my back waxed and that was very easy. Legs I shave or use Nair or and equivalent. I sort of have a routine in the shower, what to wear today, skirt? shave legs. Big night out, strip the lot.

Waxing is not very painful at all in my experience.

When you are on HRT hair growth should diminish so waxing etc can be quite effective. Last time I had my back waxed was about 6 months ago and very little regrowth.

You can get your legs lasered as well which is very effective if you have the right skin - hair follicle colour combo.

Why do you say that you would "obviously" not use Nair on your underarms? I've had great success using it there, and have noted nothing prohibitive in the directions for use.

I have a terrible time with chest stubble, though... particularly on the sternum, where I'm a bit bony and razor-defying.

for stubble I have a Ladies' electric razor.  I do shave with a blade about once a month.  I use the most bladed razor I can afford.  Fusion Razor, or similar.  The more blades the better.  And use a shaving brush to lift the hairs, and a good shaving soap.

I can not use Nair.  It burns my skin.

I found that Neet and Nair were the harshest on me. (Those two I can not use at all) Veet seems to be less harsh and worked well for me. But even that one at times was a bit more irritating. I did find something that helped with the irritation. I use this now along with the Veet and it has cleared up all of the irritation,redness and bumps. It's called "Epil Stop Perfect Finish Neutralizing After-Wash". After rinsing off the Veet or other depilatory,you apply this and it neutralises the left over depilatory. It goes on pink and when it is finished it will turn white and you just rinse it off.

I figured using it under the arms was a no-no. Figured it would really irritate that area. I'm gonna look into it and some of the others listed. This stubble from a razor is very annoying.

For over a month now I've been using an epilator on my legs, arms, back and chest. It was quite painful the first time but it does seem to get easier. At first the hair came back quickly but now I can last 3-4 days before I see any growth. I'm hoping I will only have to do it once a week or so after a while. I exfoliate the morning or night before and use an ingrown hair stopping gel the day after.

I hate hair all over. Don't know why we have to have it anyway. The ingrown hair really bothers me too, I get that a lot when I shave certain parts of my body. Didn't know there was a gel for that, interesting.

I've honestly had very limited success with Nair, I've only used it a few times and I have been rather disappointed with the results. It stinks up my bathroom for days and I still have to shave my legs anyway. Maybe I just got a lousy bottle, its hard to say. I am very much a member of the Razor cult in that regard. XD

I love nair (besides from the terrible terrible smell) but it seems to very wildly from person to person in its effectiveness.

I do use it on my underarms (aka "the pits," let's just get that out there) and I actually got it specifically to use there.The reason I wanted it for that was because I have trouble reaching/seeing/etc my armpits but the nair is pretty easy. I've used it some for larger body areas too because it's so fast but the downside is that bathe yourself in nair once a week it's going to run out pretty fast, becoming expensive.  I get no irritation unless I leave it on too long, the minimum time works fine for me. Some people literally get chemical burns when they use it though.

Oh and there actually do seem to be depilatory for men's facial hair but no one ever seems to talk about it. They seem to generally be advertised towards Black men. Nairing your face is probably still not a good idea though.

I no longer shave legs and chin after using Tria home laser for about 1 yr, but I may strike once again my armpits with Tria next summer.

I tried using Nair years ago and it didn't seem to do anything for me except burn and smell bad. I've been sticking to shaving ever since. I do have a problem with my calves in the front though. I can never get close enough and when I try, I end up cutting myself.

I'm going to try Nair and some of the other stuff just as soon as I'm living alone again. Right now I don't shave my legs but hopefully I will be soon.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, so I'll toss this one in: I use an electric shaver on my entire body, every morning. I got myself the most expensive electric I could find, about $250. It's meant for a man's face, but I find it very effective on my arms and legs and very fast. For longer hair, I use the beard trimmer part of it which mows down a hair which can then be shaved smooth.

It's less effective on my chest. I use a traditional blade in the shower for my chest, but even then I still have stubborn stubble that just won't go, but I can get pretty close.

The electric razor gives me nearly as good of a shave as a blade, but the quality among electric razors varies quite a bit I believe. This routine isn't as good as waxing or epilating (which I tried but was way too painful for me) I believe, but the results are good enough for me for normal daily living.

The whole morning routine takes me about 10-20 minutes but keeps me pretty much hair free. By the way, I'm a MtF, not on hormones and I got a naturally very hairy body from head to toe.

Now that I'm single, finally, I'm going to start shaving my legs and my chest again.  I'm really thinking Nair is the way to go though.  I had the same problem shaving my chest, regardless I had tiny stubble that just wouldn't go away...
