The Uniting American Families Act was reintroduced in Congress Tuesday, May 8, in the hopes that the Democratic majority will have success in passing the legislation. The act would give the same rights to gay and lesbian couples with foreign, permanent partners as heterosexual couples where one member is seeking to bring a foreign partner into the country for immigration purposes.

"The law discriminates now," said Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-New York), who is sponsoring the bill in the House, in a phone conference with reporters on Tuesday.
