EEOC Debuts Strategy to Address Transgender Discrimination
http://transgenderlawcenter.org/archives/2878Transgender Law Center hails the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) recent announcement that it has approved a new Strategic Enforcement Plan (SEP) that includes prioritizing addressing "coverage of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals under Title VII's sex discrimination provisions." The plan passed with a bi-partisan, 3-1 vote.
The EEOC is the federal agency that interprets and enforces federal employment discrimination law.
The EEOC's announcement follows its landmark ruling in April 2012 in Macy v. Department of Justice, a case brought by Transgender Law Center, that "intentional discrimination against a transgender individual because that person is transgender is, by definition, discrimination 'based on ... sex' and such discrimination... violates Title VII."
