Anime....manga

Ok...no offense to those who like anime, manga, and my little pony....but I swear if I see another manga or have to shelf another manga I'm going to friggin scream.

At work we have four huge shelves of this stuff and all these kids sit there and read it...but will never buy it. Most of my closing shifts involves me shelving the manga (because its the worse hit area in the store).

I think if I see one more upskirt panty manga/anime picture I will scream too. Its like all the artist got together and said "hey let's draw this girl with a really short pleated mini skirt and let's see her panties!"

It doesn't matter if the manga is scifi, horror, fantasy, romance, or comedy high chances are there is a panty shot on the cover....if its not on the cover then the artist will squeeze a pantyshot in the manga pages.

I once heard one tg girl say she loves anime because its the official tran type of girl. I wanted to dropkick her...in Christ. No...no...there will be no silly anime girl panty upskirt that's going to be my mascot lol. Hell will freeze over first.

There is some good news to all of this. My job knows how much I hate manga so when we have to rip the cover off the manga and throw the rest away, I have the honors. I so enjoy ripping mangas and throwing them in the recycle bin.

And since hardly anyone buys this stuff, I do have my hands full ripping the covers off

I have a yaoi (gay male) manga that I can assure you is devoid of upskirt panty shots.

Does your yaoi have yaoi hands?

I'm almost afraid to ask. What are yaoi hands?

What we really need is to bring back good cartoons like : Justice League, SuperFriends, The Smurfs, He-Man, She-Ra, Transformers, X-Men, the 70s 80s and the 90s had the best cartoons.

I have 8 yaoi manga on my shelf currently along with 5 yaoi books that are utterly devoid of up-skirt panty shots. :P  It definitely helps increase the appeal of yaoi.

@ Shawn:  I'm fairly certain Japan wasn't watching that stuff and were watching anime instead [i.e. they were watching cartoons, just a different type than what we got here in the U.S.]  Speed Racer, anyone?  [Which rocked.]  But I'm all for bringing back some of the older cartoons because a lot of the stuff the U.S. puts out now is just...horrible.

Im pretty sure they were watching it because they decided to re-make He-Man in Japanese Animation Studio (well technically it was a joint effort)  in 2002 and actually it was pretty good, much more action oriented, but lacked the charm of the original.

That seems quite possible:

It's a meme centered around how a lot of yaoi seems to feature really weird hands (and anatomy in general).

If I could pose a link to knowyourmeme.com, I would. Just go there and search 'yaoi hands'. It's hilarious.

No, but really. There's alot of anime that aren't even yaoi and don't have the mini-skirt things. Here's a list:

Hetalia
Dragonball Z
Big Windup (Yes, the coach is big-breasted. But there's no way in hell her shorts go above her ankles)
Soul Eater
Death Note
Trigun
Ouran Host Club (Girls wear dresses, main character's androgyne, and paternal parent is a transvestite)
Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure (Filled with lots of classic rock references)
One Piece (Pirates!)
Beet The Vandal Buster
Katanagari
Boondocks (About urban black culture. Does have strip clubs, pimps, etc. but there's ALOT more to it)
Kekkaishi
Sword Art Online
Toriko
My Neighbor Totoro
Ponyo
Arrietti
Fate / Zero
Duel Masters
Yu-Gi-Oh!
CardFight Vanguard
Getbackers
D Gray Man
Sengoku Basara
Summer Wars
Afro Samurai
Generator Gawl
Haibane Renmei
Kara no Kyoukai
Noein: Mou Hitori no Kimi e
Pumpkin Scissors
Samurai Champloo
Serial Experiments Lain
Sprited Away
Steins Gate
Tiger and Bunny
Dennpa Onna
Wolf's Rain
Blue Excorsist
Black Butler (Honestly don't know if that's a yaoi)

So.. I know there's stereotypes. But really, there's alot of anime that don't follow even half of them. And really, it's not just one genre. There's comedy, tragedy, adventure, action, etc. through all sorts of different anime. And no, not everyone who's interested in anime goes "Moshi moshi desu" at the first sight of everything and anything anime or anything made in Japan. The Pokemon fanbase is a great example of that.

However, I'll stand by your statement of anime being the unofficial mascot/entertainment of transgender people. Because really, it's quite gender-neutral, most of its fanbase as well as the content alot of it has.

Hey we even forgot a favourite for many here:
Hourou Musuko (Wandering Son)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wandering_Son
Quote...The story depicts a young student named Shuichi Nitori, described by the author as a boy who wants to be a girl, and his friend Yoshino Takatsuki, described as a girl who wants to be a boy. The series deals with issues such as transsexualism, gender identity, and the beginning of puberty...

Annah... bwahahaha....

Resistance is futile...  you were definitely asking for it when you mentioned you didn't like anime/manga. :P

Unfortunately with manga, a lot of the stuff that makes it over to english licensing tends to be the shonen (young man/teen) variety.  Gratuitous panty shots, faces in cleavage and other juvenile hijinks are common tropes - keeps those young boys coming back for more, and unfortunately it's the sort of material that sells best.

In my defense, I didn't say that The Loudest Whisper was my favorite. I merely pointed out that as a gay male manga it didn't have any upskirts panty shots.
