In my best George Takei voice, "Oh, myyy."
King Kai: DAMMIT, TAKEI!!
No, but really. There's alot of anime that aren't even yaoi and don't have the mini-skirt things. Here's a list:
Hetalia
Dragonball Z
Big Windup (Yes, the coach is big-breasted. But there's no way in hell her shorts go above her ankles)
Soul Eater
Death Note
Trigun
Ouran Host Club (Girls wear dresses, main character's androgyne, and paternal parent is a transvestite)
Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure (Filled with lots of classic rock references)
One Piece (Pirates!)
Beet The Vandal Buster
Katanagari
Boondocks (About urban black culture. Does have strip clubs, pimps, etc. but there's ALOT more to it)
Kekkaishi
Sword Art Online
Toriko
My Neighbor Totoro
Ponyo
Arrietti
Fate / Zero
Duel Masters
Yu-Gi-Oh!
CardFight Vanguard
Getbackers
D Gray Man
Sengoku Basara
Summer Wars
Afro Samurai
Generator Gawl
Haibane Renmei
Kara no Kyoukai
Noein: Mou Hitori no Kimi e
Pumpkin Scissors
Samurai Champloo
Serial Experiments Lain
Sprited Away
Steins Gate
Tiger and Bunny
Dennpa Onna
Wolf's Rain
Blue Excorsist
Black Butler (Honestly don't know if that's a yaoi)
So.. I know there's stereotypes. But really, there's alot of anime that don't follow even half of them. And really, it's not just one genre. There's comedy, tragedy, adventure, action, etc. through all sorts of different anime. And no, not everyone who's interested in anime goes "Moshi moshi desu" at the first sight of everything and anything anime or anything made in Japan. The Pokemon fanbase is a great example of that.
However, I'll stand by your statement of anime being the unofficial mascot/entertainment of transgender people. Because really, it's quite gender-neutral, most of its fanbase as well as the content alot of it has.
