My new drivers license came yesterday. I had applied for a name and gender change to the California DMV last monday.  California  has a special form for TS/TG that allows the DMV to issue a drivers license in a new name and gender.  It will not meet the federal requirements so sometime next year I need to do the court name change, but for now it's very very good.  It's interesting that you can only get a name change with a gender change.  You can also just get just a gender change.  The form is DL328 available at the DMV and Online.  One note, you need to already have a californias drivers license for it to work. It requires a doctor / therapist statement that your at least transitioning.  I am one very happy girl.

So my official name according to the DMV anyway is Beni Charlene, with F for gender.  Happy, Happy

Aww, congrats!

I remember when my licenced changed, too -- although in name only, because they won't allow you to change the M to and F unless you have surgery. I plan on having surgery, however, it sux for the mean time and for people who cannot or do not want surgery but live full-time. I've heard some rumours of a few people trying to make a class-action suit against that law, but lack of funds and a good lawyer is the problem. I know I want to be part of that suit, because once someone is living full-time and has a letter or something stating GID, the licence should change the gender. Having the wrong gender leads to discrimination, and a whole host of problems stemming from that (job issues, housing, medical, and so on).

But anyways, I don't end up hijacking your thread by rambling on too much. I'm very glad you got your name and gender changed. :)

My California D/L (with the 'F' on it) has already come in handy.  Where I work, I can stay at the lodging on a space available basis.  The rooms in a particular building (the economy lodging,) share a common bathroom, two rooms to a bathroom.  When I stay there, I now am quartered with another female in the room on the other side of the toilet door.  ;D

The federal requirements come into place December 31, 2009 if the regulations are finalized.  That is a big IF.  Basically it gives the next president the power to change the regs or put an executive order halting the regs.  It is called "passing the buck".  Basically you are not effected for another year and a half years, breath easy.

There is also a VERY good chance California will not follow the REAL ID act and challenge it in court.  The Real ID act may not go into full effect for another 10 or 15 years because there will be a slew of legal challenges to the act.

Well, by the time the real ID act comes around, I do hope to have all my ducks in a row.  Even Georgia will let you change a birth certificate from Boy to Girl, (Yes I'm a southern girl, but no accent, thank goodness).

I am just well on top of the world.  My girlfriend called me a little while ago.  I had left her work earlier and had stopped to talk to one of the other ladies there.  Anyhow, my friend called to say the other lady told her I was more feminine then her.  That was very nice to hear.  It's like wow, I'm really here now.
