Shawn Sunshine

Seems like this fellow may be close to creating a working time machine.

As I've told you, the Vulcan Science Directorate has concluded that time travel is impossible.

Hope he succeeds. Now I just need someone to invent a way to change the sex of an unborn child. Then I can travel back in time and skip this whole trans thing and just start off on the right foot instead of the left.

sadly his device will only work from the point that is was created, so people and things can come from the future , to the time it was 1st turned on.

And we all know how well that worked out.

::) Here's a couple of hypothetical questions for the Christian time traveller...I can't remember where I came across these but anyhow...

Knowing what you know about Jesus dying on the cross for mankind's sins:

As a Christian if you could travel back in time to when Jesus was about to be crucified, and if you were fortunate enough to possess the means of preventing the crucifixion [bearing in mind the crucifixion is the foundation of Christianity]. Out of compassion, would you have intervened and stopped the torture and crucifixion from happening ?

I already have a time machine.  It travels to the future at a rate of 1 second / second.

... actually, it may just be a box with "Time Machine" written on the side.
Sometimes I blog things

Of course I'm sane.  When trees start talking to me, I don't talk back.

Don't tell that to my old gal.  The Tardis can get cranky.

Good question...however there are many Christians that do not believe that Jesus' death on the cross granted everyone salvation. It was his teaching of human morality and loving the neighbor.

For example, in Luke, Jesus said to inherit eternal life you are to love your God and your neighbor with all your heart. He promised this to the man before his death.

The type of theology that subscribes to Salvation could only happen if Jesus was killed is Substitutionary Atonement. There are still a lot of Christians who believe it but it's dwindling. The belief in morality salvation has been around since the foundation of Christianity but, in my humble opinion, politics and other sources made it not that well known.  It picked up speed again in the 1700s.

It does pose an interesting question. Let us say hypothetically speaking I do go back in time, even though I do not want to see Jesus suffer, why would I stop him from defeating sin and Satan? It was not just about our sins that he took upon himself but also God stepping into history as a human and changing events so that we had a way out. Is the devil more powerful than God? No but the devil is more powerful than us and God knew that we needed protection.

I won't force anyone to believe that, but it is how I see it.

Kia Ora Shawn,

I was going to leave the other part of the question off when it was accidentally deleted

But now seeing that you have answered the first part :

2nd Part

Now if you decide not to intervene because it would defeat the whole purpose of Jesus dying on the cross to free us all from sin:

What if when it came to Jesus's turn to be nailed onto the cross, the crucifier didn't have enough nails so he asked if anyone in the crowd had any spare nails, and you just so happen to have a bag full of the right type of nails on you... Would you step forward and offer the nails to the crucifier to finish the job ?

Modern day Christianity could have taken a different path if Jesus had lived to a ripe old age...

Food for thought for the time traveller...

Time travel...Full of opportunities ...And moral dilemmas...

Sadly i have already put a nail in the cross in a manner of speaking, just from the bad things I have done to other people in the past.

I would not give them more nails if I had them though, but the romans would probably take them from me anyways, and then put me on a cross next to him for refusing to give the nails.

The only problem with going back in time, is the time paradox.  If you change one thing even killing an insect, could alter the future.  And that could lead to the time machine from ever being created.

Assuming a single universe theory.. In a multiverse this is less of a problem.

Now everybody knows that there is only on real working time machine, that looks like an old English Police Box.   It's called the Tardis and it belongs to Doctor Who.   For more information contact BBC America.  Or BBC where ever you are.
