I just saw Mirrors. I rated a 3 out of 5. Major story flaws. Ok special effects. The scare is mostly psychological, but sorta tamed and predictable. The story kept my interest, though baffled me once or twice.

Mirrors sucked. Go for From Within... it was a pick for the After Dark Horrorfest in 2008, and in my opinion, it's the best movie they've ever had in the festival (which, granted, is rarely good in the first place). Autopsy, from the same festival, was all right; I watched it last night, and while the story was fairly flawed, the creativity of the gory scenes makes it well worth a viewing.

Of course... for movies involving mirrors, which always tend to freak me out, my pick is Poltergeist III. Excellent, scary 80s film (RIP Heather O'Rourke :( ).

Now, you'll have to excuse me... while looking up her name I found out they've scheduled a Poltergeist remake for 2011. I must go slaughter all involved.

I just found out about a local con called ScareFest in September!  If you live near KY, it's in Lexington and there are going to be some pretty awesome people there!  I'm excited!
If curiosity really killed the cat, I'd already be dead.

I finally saw Quarantine. I liked it better about as much as Cloverfield, though I found it a tad bit more interesting to me, probably because I like the genre more. I really enjoyed the seemingly constant flow of scenes without camera cuts, even with the special effects and and action. Refreshing after all of the viewing of the recent shaking camera films, and cut-happy films. I haven't seen [Rec] yet still unavailable, though on my list.

It has been a while since I have seen those movies. I might have to re watch them.

I think they would have to really alter the story to have any chance of pulling off a remake of Poltergeist. I don't think a straight play-by-play remake would work.

yeah, mirrors was not my favorite.  I've already got the latest horrorfest on my Netflix queue.  Now just to wait for them to get to the top.  :)
I watched White Noise 2 (don't ask why) and The Reaping this past weekend.  Both were mediocre films.  White Noise 2 was probably worse, The Reaping at least had the strength of Hillary Swank's acting to keep it afloat from sinking like a rock.

I absolutely love scary movies and always have. Here are some of my all-time favorites

Nightmare on Elm Street - Classic franchise, Freddy Krueger is a legend in horror and I met the actor who played him - Robert Englund

Candyman - Scares the heck out of me every time I watch it - and I've seen it over ten times! It's also fun to watch with friends and watch them jump, very well written and story is superb

Re-Animator - More horror comedy but still a blast to watch

Return of the Living Dead - Excellent zombie flick, first to feature running & talking zombies "Send more paramedics" lol

I have a good collection of them and every October becomes a movie marathon :)

I love the old black and white movies with Lon Chaney and Boris Karloff. I think they were intended to be satire. They sure are funny and not the least bit scary.  "Even a man who is pure in heart and says prayers at night, may turn into a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms and the moon is full and bright."

I don't think they were satirical.  They're just 80 years old.  Now they very obviously look dated, but Bela Lugosi is still my favorite Dracula.
The quote from the Wolfman is actually from, IIRC, the third movie with the Wolfman, the first two have the last phrase as "and the autumn moon is bright"
Superb movies, all of them.  Universal put out some great boxed sets some years ago with all of the old monster movies.  I finally got the last of them in 2007.  They're great fun to watch, especially since they don't show things like that on Sunday afternoon anymore.  :)

Its that time of year again for all that is horrific. Whats on everyone's list this year?

I have 39 movies lined up, but wont get through all I think. My first 12 are.
The Changeling (1980), The Woods (2005), Bubba Ho-Tep, Last House on the Left (2009), Fright Night, Subspecies (first one), She Creature, Demons, Demon Seed, House (1986), Lady in White, and Boot Camp.

The Unborn is on my list so I am curious to hear how it was, its listed #23.

When Phantasm II comes out I will watch all 4 movies for a mini marathon.

I also have Boogeyman and Feast mini marathons listed. though much lower priority, if I reach that far.

At the theater I am interested in Holloween II, The Final Destination 2009, as well as Saw VI of course. I may have to rewatch 1-5.

I have just seen the Orphan - Rubbish not really worth it predicable.. good twist at the end but to watch a movie for 75 minutes to find out the ending..

They wait it bored me and I lost interest after 15/20 minutes and turned it off..

Just waiting to see the new remake of Friday the 13th to be released here.

Also looking forward to Saw VI.  Search around for the poster that goes with their annual "Give Till it Hurts" blood drive.  I totally want a corset like that.   >:-)

My list for the coming months is still under construction, but it's looking like all of Horrorfest from '08, and some other odd little ones I haven't seen yet (Color Me Blood Red, REC, The Grudge 3).

Gonna go see what else is on Netflix....

I liked the Orphan.  I really liked the part where she's threatening the brother: "I'll cut off your hairless little prick before you even know what it's for."  FTW

So far my favorites in this years batch are House('86), Dolls, April fool's day('86), Demon Seed, and the Changeling('80)

Biggest disappointments so far:
The Woods- just not as good as the Craft or Ginger Snaps. Over used the words "fire-crotch". If you like a generic average movie, this is okay.

Boot camp- Though netflix called this a teen screem, it seemed more like a weak drama. Or like DiCaprio's "The Beach"
