I watched Saw III in the theater.  I didn't think it was all that scary (maybe I'm just not remembering right), but I did enjoy it.

heads blowing up, nutty people cutting their legs and arms off, blood all over the place, not scary?  ::)

"Alien" or John Carpenter's "The Thing" or "In cold Blood"
"Evil Dead part 2" was pretty good too.

To be scary to me, it must frighten, alarm, or terrify me. Or make me jump sometimes. This movie didnt do too much of that.

Rather this movie made me cringe at the gore, feel some of the intensity of the action, feel wonder at the puzzle that unwound, and follow the chase to the next seen. AKA more of a thriller. I would call it a gory thriller, with a bit of mystery added.

Now something more like Final Destination, where one might jump when suddenly something appears quickly out of no wear. Now when I watch Hostel, it was gory, but that became scary in that it seemed more real and intense. I cringed , but the thought of how real it seemed or that I could be in that place became scary.

Saw series, the puzzles sorta distracted from being too attached to the situation. But the mystery of the puzzles was cool in its own way.

I do like how he said he despised murderers, and rather tested the will of people, giving them a choice of how to get out. Though that was a bit twisted.

Gory does not always mean scary.  Perhaps working in one of the best haunted houses in the country has made it so gore doesn't really frighten me.

I rented a bunch of scary movies last Saturday (like six ), but I did not have enough time to watch them all, so yesterday night, I watched The Grudge 2..now come on!  that movie is scary!

Who writes this stuff anyway?  you really have to have a twisted imagination, especially on Saw 3.   LOL  :D

Just watched Trailer for Rob Zombies remake of Halloween coming in aug. of this year.

I must say... looks scary at first glance.

Give me the classics anytime.

My favorite - Rosemary's Baby

I like the movies where they allow your imagination make it much worse than they possibly could on film. The last great horror film was Alien. The build up and the suspense was agonizing. I showed the first Alien movie to a couple 20 somethings who had grown up watching movies like the Texas Chain Saw and Halloween and it was something to behold. I knew exactly when they were going to jump and could watch them as the tension mounted. They raised up in their seats and looked like they were about to launch themselves through the ceiling. You can see in the later movies of the quadrilogy how the suspense and imagination was secondary to the gore. Maybe there are some good new scary movies but I've pretty much given up on the new ones and look for the classics. Oh, to be able to watch Rosemary's Baby or the original "The Haunting" again for the first time!!!

(Didn't know about this side of me did you?)

I just saw the movie Vacancy this weekend with Rashelle.  I jump so easily now and even though she wasn't that impressed with the movie, she says she enjoyed me clinging onto her.

I just saw VACANCY over the wekend and it was a fairly good film, but it wasn't enough to make me jump. Still today the only 'horror' film that has ever made me jump was the first NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.

And you aren't on hormones either.  Before HRT you could NOT make me jump whatsoever.

Hey Melissa,

I didn't think of that, but I guess you're right. Hormones can change your entire body chemistry, and I guess you'd be more prone to jumping at a scary movie. But yes, I am not on hormones, but there are some films that will make me jump :icon_caffine: BTW VACANCY was a snuff film and wasn't much of a horror film. But I'm no critic . . . ;D

I love scary movies and the only movie which has actually scared me was The Grudge nothing else has actually scared me and I've seen almost everything which is in English. I usually like the cheesy not-serious horror movies like Evil Dead.

I also LOVE zombie movies. I live nearby to where Night of the Living Dead was filmed  8)

love em.

i also love the 28 days later film, and dog soldiers. most horror films are dull though.

Saw Halloween remake by Rob Zombie.

I give it a B grade.

Just didnt like the music and shaking camera for the fight scenes. If you see it you will see what I mean. Other than that it was ok. Not too scary but interesting and more real than the original. I think Rob Zombies best movie of his 3 so far.

Alot of "scary" movies are good, but simply arent scary to me.
I don't think I can recall more the 2 movies I was ever actually scared by.
Jacob's Ladder, I think i was 12, total mindjob and Event Horizon (I was frying at the time)
I suppose everyone is desensitized in their own way, but it would be nice to scream like a 4 year old girl sometimes.  I mean really...  zombies?   zzzzzzzz

I agree Skye. So many are so unrealistic and not really scary.
My favorite would have to be the first "SAW" though. I love the nuttiness of the story and as crazy as it is, it's something that could actually happen.  :icon_headache:

I am very unimpressed with Hills have Eyes 2 and the Grudge 2.

Zodiac was a good thriller, almost a stalker film.

Vacancy was an ok thiller

The Marsh was a surprise having never heard of it, also a thriller.

Some of the "Masters of Horror" were ok
