WHy do people say that like it's a bad thing?

If a guy really feels like he is a male, and not a female, he wouldn't be addicted to estrogen, am i correct? If someone is addicted to estrogen, it means that they are probably females

Estrogen is only addictive to MtF transsexuals.  HRT is litterally the only means to chemical congruety.  Those who are not TS and take cross sex hormones do not have the same reaction (in fact it is the exact opposite).  It seems like an addiction, in reality its a chemical peace, so once the brain processes it, it wants to continue to do so.

Are you saying that it is or is not  addictive?

ROFLMAO :) although "E" does not posses the narcotic qualities to be classified as addictive from personal experience of off and on I would say HELL YES ITS ADDICTIVE. Let me clarify some :) while taking "E" I was happy, joyful and general pleasant to be around, because of an ordering snafu on my part I was without "E" almost two weeks, I was bitchy, depressed and NOBODY wanted to be any where around me. As soon as I got my "E" back in my system I was my old self, so although not taking your "E" won't give you narcotic type withdraws you can still be addicted.

Can anyone point to scientific articles showing that E makes males unhappy? Just curious.

Do you really think they would be happy with nonfunctioning genitalia...I mean come on they are guys.

Also read this:
http://www.menalive.com/ims-AARP.htm

Most men are only happy when the T is high.  To much E, and low T...well you get a cranky, depressed, irratible male who is frustrated with thier reduced sex drive.

Like I said, the fact cross sex hormones work the way they do on transsexuals (MtF and FtM) should be proof enough that its a PHYSICAL/Hormonal condition involving brain structure. There are psychological elements to the condition once one achieves awareness of it, but if it were just a psychological condition alone, HRT would not be as effective as it is. As it stands HRT is the most effective treatment for any condition found in the DSM.  If it was just a psychological condition HRT would have negative effects and make us into monsters, not bring a level of inner peace.

Exactly.  The fact the guys do exist...kinda points to the reality.
E has a negative effect on men.  Its pretty easy to figure out.

The reason I made this topic was because when people say estrogen is addictive in a cautionary tone, the meaning I taken from that is that it is hard for one to go back to being a guy once the individual is addicted to estrogen, like, the estrogen is almost fooling the person into thinking they are females when they are not. I don't know.

I think E is "somewhat" addictive.  I feel more at peace with it.

I have tried to stop 4 times in the past year and I last for about two days without it and then I go crazy.  I just restart and it takes me at least a week to stabilize.

I don't think thats the case Asian.  You are getting hooked to it because it is the chemical your brain feels your body needs.  Like I said, if you were not transgender estrogen would work very differantly.  The fact it is working the way it is, is a sign that you are transsexual, and that your brain and your body were not matching when you were born, your gender (mind) and sex (body) were differant.  You cannot change your brain, but the body and body chemistry...well that can be changed.  You are bringing congruity to your mind, that is why it is attaching itself so strongly to estrogen.

Why did you try to stop Wendy?

I've wondered the same thing. I DO see many non-TSs (self-identified) on other forums who take E as a "kink," and who freak out and stop once real changes begin. Be careful what you wish for.

Then there are those who find "feeling femme" is a huge turn on. But it's different with them versus TSs... if you watch their words, they always speak of femininity like it's an outside thing to them, kind of like crossdressing with feelings along with clothes. They seem to carry this pretty far, but it's for the kink of it, not because it feels "right."

On the other hand, I think the real warning is that if you *are* TS, beginning HRT is likely to lead to a full transition. You just cannot go back once you experience that feeling, that peace of FINALLY being right in your head, your feelings and thoughts finally feeling like your own. It's a bit like exposing Santa Claus: once you *know* the truth, you just can't close your eyes to it ever again.

Amy,  I was hoping I would feel fine after stopping E and S.  However I started getting headaches and then got very angry and depressed.  When I started back up I would go into crying fits for days and eventually stabilize.

I tried this a few times and got the same results.

E does not give me a buzz or make me high.  It makes me feel bubbly.

Asian sometimes a full transition just seems too complicated.  HRT might or might not be a good compromise. My logic regarding handling TG is illogical.

Remember TG encompasses a fairly broad spectrum of individuals and you will get different "reasonable" answers from different people on the spectrum.   ;)

its unlikely if you put a guy on hrt, he would suddenly belive he was a woman and transiton...
they would end up a f2m if they were made to transition, because they would be a man in a womans body...the brain wins out in the end...

If we limit this to the mental effects of estro in cis-gendered males, are there any studies?

I don't think results from trans population (mtf or ftm) are applicative to cis people very much.

E sure makes me unhappy. Its a curse that I will soon fix :) I'll take some of you girl's extra T though =D

the easiest and cheapest study would be to offer a random sample of 100 guys US$100/mo if they went on HRT for 6 months.
