First time binder for someone else?

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I'd really like to get him a binder. He's always used sports bras and such before and I think (hope!) he'd really like it. So my question is: Do you have any ideas as to what would be the best first binder? I've been looking at Underworks' binders but there are so many to choose from...

I've only ever worn Tri-tops since I started binding. My chest is discrete to begin with, so I can't say if it would work well for larger chested people, but I like them a lot.

This might be tricky, but you'll probably need his measurements to make sure you're getting the right size. They have instructions on the underworks website.

I do have one more question thought (for anyone): I have a fear that this might be an offensive gift... I feel like he could take it as me saying that I don't like/accept his body (which is not at all true)... is that a totally baseless concern? I think I am way over thinking this...

I can't speak for every transguy, but if my significant other bought me a binder, I'd very much appreciate it! To me, it'd say that he or she both supported me in my transition and wanted to help me with it.

I have the underworks 997 and it's my first binder. I'm a larger chested guy and it doesn't flatten me completely but once I move them round a bit I find a look I'm happy with. The only problem I've found with this style is the back rolls up a bit, but I think this is due to my large butt. Tucking it into my jeans with a belt helps.

As for worrying it'll offend him, I'd be over the moon if my partner bought me a binder. It would be an amazing gift and I can't speak for your boyfriend but I don't know many trans guys who wouldn't be happy if their partner got them a binder.

I think that underworks is a good place to start.  For a smaller chested and lighter weight guy I'd go with the tritop (I forget the model number), but for those with a little extra padding, or a larger chest the double front 997 is probably the way to go.  You could always buy the 997 and suggest that if it rolls up then they could cut the bottom off to make it tritop length, as a lighter and smaller chested guy I had to do this because the rolling up drove me insane, but I've heard it staying down better on those heavier than me.

I'd not worry about offending him, I was too ashamed to ask my partner at the time to ask to get my first binder sent to their house and put on their card.  Eventually I cracked and had to ask them -- amidst tears -- if I could.  Then they refused to accept any money for it 😛
