I got an appointment with a Trans therapist for Monday in Morgantown which means my mom will have to borrow a car and take me there which is 2 hours away. I was just wondering what trans therapists say to you when you first see them? It'll all probably go horribly wrong knowing my luck and I won't get to see the therapist but just in case it doesn't go wrong I'm scared of what will happen when I first see him.
Push it baby, push it baby, out of control, I got my gun cocked tight and I'm ready to blow. ;)

They're like any other therapist really except they put more focus on gender identity and they understand it. You'll do fine and if you have a good therapist they'll put you at ease fairly quickly. Just don't tell them you think you're a sex god...unless you want to discuss it in full.

Lol. I'll be sure not to tell him that.

It's different for everyone depending on their therapist. From my personal experience, my therapist spent my first session getting to know me.  She asked me if I'm Ftm or Mtf, how my family/social life was, my plans for the future concerning my transition (and when I plan on transitioning) as well as a career.  She also ended up giving me some health tips in the end.

Don't be scared!  Stay positive and just answer everything he asks of you to the best of your abilities.

Congrats on seeing a therapist! :)

Don't worry about it. As long as you're therapist is competent. You'll do fine if you keep Simon's advice. :)  Anyway, I was kind of hoping my therapist would knock that silly idea that I was trans out of my head, I was so scared and anxious. I guess that didn't work out-- but I'm not really so anxious anymore.

Therapists are easy to talk to, almost as a rule.  If they aren't - probably not the one for you anyways.

The therapist will just give you a run down on how they work, etc, and you can ask questions.   At my first appointment I was totally nervous and awkward and it worked out okay, so don't be too afraid.  Think about a few questions you want to ask them about the whole deal beforehand if you want to make it easier on yourself, but you don't have to really worry about it.

Since you have to travel, you might want to talk to your Mom beforehand about how often you could get there so you know that information before you have to make another appointment with the therapist, pick session times, etc.  But that is really just administrative. If you are going to need some kind of letter for anything, you may want to ask the therapist how they usually handle that stuff.
