The Australian Government is considering adopting legislative changes to the Immigration Act to now validated the presence of those people who wish to be indentified as Intersex.
The Law Reform Advisory Council (LRAC) of the ACT have completed a review of gender nomination and legal expression for the gender diverse.
Now, when applying for an Australian Passport you have the option of nominating yourself (pending medical proof if necessary) as Female, Male, Intersex or Non descript.
http://www.justice.act.gov.au/resources/attachments/LRAC_Report_7_June.pdfIt's refreshing to see our community being given the legitimacy it so sorely needs. Hopefully this will add to the already building ground swell of our needs and desires.
If a recent National Geographics documentary on ->-bleeped-<-, in North America alone, bears any resemblance to worldwide figures; then we need to be officially recognised and treated like everyone else who has voting rights.
In this documentary, it stated that a very conservative 1% of the North America population were Transgendered. Whether they knew it or not. They further postulated in this documentary that a large percentage of this 1% were not fully aware of their condition.
If the conservatism was to be lifted, to say a modest, 2%; that would mean our community by population would represent a country the size of Russia. Russia currently stands as the 9th most populated world countries. We would be very close to to being, based on a modest 2%, 140 million, worldwide. A bit over a third of the population of North America; 7 times the population of Australia, including Tasmania.
Now, without getting too excited. What if we attempted to consider just a mere 3% of the total population. Still conservative in my view of all species on the planet. That would take us to approx 210 million. A population slightly larger than Brazil, the 5th most populated country in the world.
Are you listening??
We are cross racial, we are cross cultural, we are cross creed, we are cross border, we are cross boundary, we are cross country. We are truly international.
We are represented in all demographics, all ages, all species; every know survey conducted; we are represented.
We are politicians, boiler makers, singers, church leaders, supermarket operators, scientists, students, truck drivers, bankers, airline pilots, teachers, mothers, fathers, daughters, sisters, sons and brothers.
It's time for change.
