Yesterday a new resident arrived where I live. Today her son in-law stopped me to talk while he waited for his wife. We introduced ourselves, I told him my birth name as I am far from presenting female. We talked a bit about sports, hunting, where we lived during our lives. Nothing overly deep just passing the time. That was until he asked what I thought about the nursing home. I told him that as far as they go this one will be hard to beat. Every room is private and I could not live in a place that I would have a room mate. He went on to say that his mother in-law was the same way.

I then told him that no I have a very specific reason as to why. I got a puzzled look from him at this as it piqued his intrest. I asked him if he had an open mind, he assured me he did. I then explained to him that I am transgendered.

I didn't go into heavy details but as we were wrapping up the conversation he wished me well.

It was very interesting to say the least and it felt great having acceptance from a total stranger who now I consider a friend.

Well done Beth, that is a good sign of acceptance.
