I don't know if any of you have experienced similar things, but I have found some online trans people and communities to be not very accepting of different opinions. Like I have to buy into their dogma or just shut up. Things they have taken issue at have included:
-My opposition to unilateral no-fault divorce and support for divorce reform
-My support of the idea of abstinence outside of commitment and my support for abstinence based sex education
-My negative views on polyamory as a lifestyle (I have made it clear I don't judge anyone though)
Clearly none of these have to do with being trans. Why should I being trans mean that I cannot hold the above values?

you can't just say, "oh, i don't agree with your lifestyle, but i don't judge you!!!" because you, uh, can't do that.  if you're "disagreeing", what you're really doing is placing judgment.

also one other thing: abstinence-based sex education leads to less use of protection, which itself directly causes higher rates of teen pregnancy and STD transmission.  i think we can both agree that both of those are bad.  abstinence-based sex education doesn't work.  so yeah, i take issue with anyone promulgating those ideas.

I can't agree, I can't disagree but opinions are not fact.  If you don't want to argue your position its best taking a neutral standpoint.

Besides, many of us are completely monogamous so thats a bit of an unfair statement.

I have found that same thing elsewhere. That is one of the many reasons I love this site so much. Every one, no matter what your thoughts and opinions, is welcome here.

The truth is, we are all "Individuals," we are not all going to march in lockstep.

We come from different backgrounds, different situations and different religious beliefs.

Sure we all share one thing, falling under the Transgender and/or LGBT umbrellas (hopefully I didn't miss some initial that will anger anyone).  That does not mean we are going to agree on every topic and we really don't need to.

I can disagree with a persons stance on something without getting angry at them or insulting them (or being accused of "Judging" them).
Nameless here for evermore!;  Merely this, and nothing more;
Tis the wind and nothing more!;  Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore!!"

I'm not the most terribly insightful lady, but I feel it behooves me, in all my dealings with people and the world around me, to keep in mind the words of this overwhelmingly insightful guy:

"Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted."

What do your beliefs have to do with being trans? the modern world doesn't like those things. It's not some thing in the trans community. It has nothing to do with being trans at all. Maybe espousing conservative ideas on a trans site is just a bad idea since conservatives seem to wish an untimely and violent death on anyone who is trans. What you advocating is simply politics and has nothing to do with being an MTF or FTM.

Now I don't think conservatives wish a violent death on trans people!

As a conservative I assure you, this is not the case. I've received ten times as much hate for being conservative as for being trans, and I think it all stems from assuming people are bigots when they disagree.

I think the word you are looking for can also refer to donkey burials. (I was cracking up for days on my Ashkelon dig when we found just that. :D )
Don't lose who you are along the path to who you want to be.

Then why did every single elected republican representative justify voting against the Violence Against Women Act because of one line that said it should be illegal to kill or maim trans people for being trans? I'm sure there are pockets of people who are nice but by and large actions speak louder than words.

Being from the bible belt, I've made lots of friends and have family that are pretty hard line conservative. Yeah, some conservatives are nuts (and so are some liberals) but most of the ones I've met, ESPECIALLY from the younger generations, have been totally care-free about me being trans.

Why did Bill Clinton sign DOMA into law? What about DADT?
