Confucius was real? I always thought he was a symbol of ancient wisdom, but just portrayed as Chinese...never thought to look him up to see if he was real.

A lot of the sayings attributed to him (in America) were of a comical nature..."Confucius say, 'Man who go to sleep with itchy butt...wake up with smelly fingers'", that sort of thing.

Probably, some modification from an original statement. The point may be that yin and yang can be exchanged, but the result is the opposite.

Confucius himself did not write most of his books. His students and the later scholars did with various comments. Some surmise that the original text of I-ching was written by him. It's like Jesus did not write Bible.
