I like a little tape recorder personally, but some like to use their pc along with spectrum analyzers and all that jazz. I tend to think some of the analyzer stuff can make you try to push things too high just to get to some ideal female point in frequency when really, you may not have to. I preferred to use my own ears to determine if it sounded right to me or not along with feedback from others irl. My voice isn't the greatest in my mind, but I always get gendered correctly female on phones, intercoms, etc. which is usually the hardest places to get right.
I'm sure you will get lots of advice on here though and just try various methods until you find one you like for yourself.
